Spell Bands
Professors, Teachers, and Staff
f you’re tired of students lying out of embarrassment over failed spells, covering up magical accidents, or worse conducting secret projects without authorization, we have good news. Spell Band technology now allows faculty to accurately track and review exactly what spells and rituals a student has been performing.
Once a band is dispelled and accessed by authorized staff, it can display records of up to the last one hundred spells cast. Recent improvements to the system allow it to accommodate nearly all spells currently known, across recognized elements and schools of magic.
Simply put: if a student refuses to tell the truth, their Spell Band will.
Spell Band Versions
Version I Student Standard
This version takes the form of a bronze bracelet set with a single purple gem at its center. Along the inner edge are engraved runes in green and purple. It is the most commonly issued Spell Band and is standard equipment for all students.Version II Reinforced Student Band
This version is a bronze bracelet shaped in a figure-eight design and set with two purple gems. It performs all the same functions as Version I, but its reinforced construction allows it to withstand heavier magical strain. This version is issued to students with large mana pools or those capable of casting especially powerful spells.Staff Version Authorized Control Band
The staff version is a bronze bracelet set with three gems: a purple gem, a blue gem, and a green gem. Its engraved runes are highlighted in yellow, purple, and green. The blue gem allows the wearer to receive alerts if any Spell Band within a 50-foot radius is triggered or forcibly removed, and enables tracking of the activated band. The band also emits a low-frequency magical signal from the green gem effective within six inches, allowing authorized staff to activate, deactivate, or override other Spell Bands safely.Mechanics & Inner Workings
The band captures an imprint of how a caster’s aura moves and changes. Whenever there is a significant fluctuation, chaining, or surge within the caster’s magical aura, the band copies that pattern. By comparing it against a pre-scanned baseline of the wearer’s natural energy, the band can identify the type of spell or magic being performed.
It does this by drawing on an extensive internal archive of elemental energies and schools of magic, while also cross-checking verbal components and technical casting motions. In effect, the band records the act of spellcasting itself and analyzes it in real time. If the spell is recognized, the band identifies it; if not, it displays the gathered data for further study and classification.
If a Spell Band is forcibly removed or tampered with, it immediately activates a security response. The band emits a loud siren and releases a localized pulse of magical energy that alerts any staff member wearing an authorized Staff Band.
This system ensures faculty are instantly aware of any attempts by students to interfere with, disable, or remove their Spell Bands. To prevent unauthorized removal, each band is magically enchanted so it can only be taken off legitimately through a specific command word, a dispelling spell, and the presence of an authorized Staff Band nearby.
