Dwarves

Dwarves are often seen as underground artisans and fearless warriors, comparable to orcs or wolffolk in terms of resilience. While they are indeed expert craftsmen and formidable fighters, this comes not from brute force alone, but from centuries of surviving and thriving in dangerous subterranean environments.

Over time, Dwarves have expanded beyond the depths, establishing surface-dwelling societies as well. They are a versatile and diverse people—don’t assume all Dwarves are the same.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves are a short, stocky, medium-sized species with two arms, two legs, ten fingers, and ten toes. They have round skulls, rounded ears, and stout facial features, including circular pupils and irises. Their bodies are covered in fine hair—males often grow facial and body hair, while females vary in body hair presence and can also grow facial hair. It is common and culturally accepted for both sexes to wear their beards with pride.

Natural Magic

Dwarves possess natural resistance to Earth Magic and are vulnerable to Fire Magic. Roughly 80% of Dwarves show an earth alignment.

  • Defensive Training: Dwarves gain a +4 dodge bonus to AC against monsters of the giant subtype
  • Hardy: Dwarves gain a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities
  • Stability: Dwarves gain a +4 racial bonus to their Combat Maneuver Defense when resisting a bull rush or trip attempt while standing on the ground
  • Craft Clain: Dwarves gain a +2 racial bonus on Appraise checks made to determine the price of non-magical goods that contain precious metals or gemstones.
  • Stonecunning: Dwarves gain a +2 bonus on Perception checks to notice unusual stonework, such as traps and hidden doors located in stone walls or floors. They receive a check to notice such features whenever they pass within 10 feet of them, whether or not they are actively looking.
  • Darkvision: Dwarves can see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.
  • Slow and Steady: have a base speed of 20FT but their speed is never modified by armor or encumbrance.
  • Gift of Earth 50% Damage Reisentes form magical Earth and 50% weakness damage from magical fire

Genetics and Reproduction

Dwarves reproduce via a male-female pair. After ten months of gestation, a child is born. Dwarves remain fertile until around age 235.

Growth Rate & Stages

  • Dwarves are considered infants between the ages of zero and Six, during which time they were completely dependent on their parents for food and care. They gradually pick up mobility and world awareness.
  • The next stage is kids who learn, play, and grow between the ages of Seven and 15. Although kids are not as dependent on their parents at this point, they are still present to meet the majority of their needs. However, young kids are inquisitive and beginning to understand others and themselves. People have a saying that a young child always hears and retains. My favorite saying from my friends at the bar is “Kids are just little people who become truth drunks”.This is still just a metaphor like all children are truth drunks. In most dwarven the society they don't get their first taste of alcohol until around their teenager years.
  • Between the ages of 16 and 32, their bodies begin to evolve and develop into adults, which is referred to as the teenage years. Their physical body begins to gain figure, height, weight, and muscles. In most situations, this is also where natural magic develops. In most circumstances, they will also begin to establish their identity and become less reliant on their parents.
  • From the ages of 32 to 249, they are in their adulthood, their bodies have matured, and they have a good sense of what their natural magic will do. It will continue to develop as they age, but in most cases, it has a set of talents.
  • From 250 to roughly 300 years of age, they are elders; their bodies have gradually begun to slow down and become weaker, as have their magical talents if they are not kept up with. Well, even old Dwarves still work so their physical body does weaken that much. Other people regard them as wise because they have lived a lengthy life for a Dwarves. This is the Dwarves' life cycle.

Ecology and Habitats

Dwarves prefer to live underground, especially in mountain ranges, due to both comfort and instinct. However, they adapt well to surface environments. Regardless of location, they tend to build with stone and integrate their architecture into natural formations.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves are omnivores but consume a higher proportion of meat and fungi due to subterranean living. They have developed a tolerance for many natural poisons and have perfected the art of alcohol brewing—both for sustenance and culture.

Dwarves are exceptionally intelligent when it comes to crafting, engineering, and earth-based magics. However, they are often bound by tradition, which can limit innovation despite technical skill.

  • Vision: Up to 2 miles of daylight clarity; darkvision due to enhanced cones and tapetum lucidum.
  • Hearing: 20 Hz to 23 kHz—standard but reliable.
  • Smell: Broad detection range; not as refined as scent-based species.
  • Touch: Highly sensitive—used to detect flaws in materials or changes in pressure.
  • Taste: Fully capable of detecting all five basic tastes.

Naming Traditions

At first, you call little children names by parents for the first 25 years of life.  You get your name during your naming ceremony, you are given your adult name, the name you will be known for your adult life. Usually, this ceremony is done with you, your parents, the head or rep of all the clan, and the rep of the ruling body. know they will discuss and perry depending on the kingdom and clan. Until they find you a naame and what clan you be living in know. Surnames are usually specific to your clan, This helps another know which clan you belong to.

Merchant Caste - to sell and barter goods between clans
Governing Council comprised of 4 members from all castes
Know all Kingdom have something like this in their kingdom. It might not be the same but you see similarity.

Beauty Ideals

Females looking for long powerful beards that show their prowess.
Males look for beautiful hair breading that shows their skill.
Both will look for more Well built physiques and will look over lads or lasses that are thin. Personality is deppent on the Drwaft.

Relationship Ideals

They have both Arranged marriage and Couples getting together. Arranged marriages are set either by clan leaders or the parents with clan lead blessing. It could be for a number of reasons. Ranging from helping other clans out to punishing the parents. Their no telling what they have in mind. Know the one who gets married for love. they could be dating or just could be friends there is no wrong way for dwarves to get to getter.

Know when they want to be married. Then they got asked clan heads if each in a different one or the same one just one. If they get the blessing great they know to be married. Know if they don't they have two options. one breaks up and accepts the ruling. The other is to be clanless with is hard to live in dwarven society.

They are the best race to shape metal and rocks. they are pre-industrial.

  • Skin: Light peach to dark brown; skin tone often muted due to limited sun exposure but it darken from the dirt.
  • Hair: Commonly black, brown, auburn, or grey. Facial hair (for all sexes) is a major source of pride for the most male. Female it will depedton where they come from and how they want it.
  • Eyes: Are t are light to mid color brown blue-green yellow
