The Reflecting Pools
If you listen carefully, you can hear the past and the future speaking to you at once.
The Reflecting Pools were a project initiated by the ancient Elves and the Maiden early in the Age of Light. Over the ensuing 30,000 years, they evolved into a majestic display of artistry and elemental workmanship, featuring vast reflecting pools, waterfalls, soundscapes, and even lights to showcase how nature can be refined and enhanced.
Purpose / Function
The Reflecting Pools have long been the Magnum Opus of the Elves of Mauribon, who sought to achieve the Maiden's stated command to help bring nature to its ultimate fruition. Through 30,000 years of artistic work on this structure, the introduction of water elementals, and the constant utilization of new technology as it is developed or discovered, the Reflecting Pools have sought to achieve the purpose of showcasing what the element of Water can do.
Alterations
Expansion: The Elves have used stone cutting to chisel out the caves over the years, creating new caverns, tunnels, and even an overlook of Mauribon.
Smoothing: These same stone-cutting skills have been used to smooth the rock walls and floors to create a place of comfort and reflection.
Water Flow: Channels have been created throughout the cliffs, creating spillways and cascades that guide the spring water to form deliberate waterfalls and pools.
Terracing: Natural terraces have been used to encourage water to cascade down the cliff face and within the caverns.
Hydro-Acoustics: The Water flow has been adjusted to amplify or soften the sounds of the flowing water, creating immersive, tranquil soundscapes.
Luminous Enchanements: They have encouraged the growth of specific phosphorescent mosses and placed various crystals and mirrors throughout the caves to produce light.
Architecture
Limestone Cliffs: Due to this structure being cut from the northern cliffs, it is almost entirely made out of limestone. Its pale whitish blue color contrasts well with the blues and greens of the water.
Underground Springs: All of the pools are fed from vast underground springs, giving the Elves ample water to direct to various features of the structure.
