I am so late for this, but I found some time to be able to do at least some of this before WorldEmber starts. My goals might be different this year from last year since I have finals to look forward to. Even Novelember is becoming a challenge because I have so many essays to write. However, I will persevere and try my best at this. Alright first things first.......
Week 1:Pledge My Goal
I got over 20k words of worldbuilding last year. This was when I first made my WorldAnvil account. I want to see if I can do bigger and greater things, but I need to remember my life changed since last year. I'm thinking 10k words would be the minimum goal. If I reach higher than that, then all the power to me.
My area of focus this year is finishing Astnyr in its entirety. Then I could start on Notta and my short story series for the characters of the Astnyr trilogy. If the prompts don't suit me this year, then that isn't important. I just want to finish this part of Eldabrand in the month I created it last year.
This means I'll be looking at the rest of organizations, months/traditions, magic, and item menus.
Can't seem to have the pledge document uploaded, but I pledge it anyway!!!
Updating meta again, really? This is something I will skip this year. My motivations have stayed the same and the world speaks for itself. My improvement is in my writing and worldbuilding.
Week 2:Prepare My World For New Readers
I need to tweak Eldabrand's homepage a bit. Elsar is still empty from a description. I think I have decided on the races and classes in my head a bit. But the story of the region still eludes me somewhat. I'm thinking some kind of story that would include the Old God of Greed. The pirates work for this Old God while the mermaids and sympathetic humans fight against them. The necromancy and fire magic pirates possess and mermaids possess water and ice magic. However, there are those mermaids that possess blood magic and help the pirates in their corruption.
I'm just looking for a premise before the plot of the third trilogy, Elsar trilogy. This is a start of this idea.
What the hell is a primer? I never thought I would have to do that for a book setting. For the Astnyr trilogy explores characters that haven't seen either Astnyr and Notta. It would take a lot of time to do this, but I think I can include it once I finish all the articles with Astnyr at least. Not now though, not much time left unfortunately. And time is a finite resource.
Oooo, now this is a good idea. Community tools will probably help me in the long run. Right now, I only have my patreon button on every article and my homepages. Follow buttons inside the article itself would be a good idea. I'll try to implement that this weekend since I won't be working on essays. I'm ahead of schedule enough on them that I can take this weekend off.
With CSS, I'm not sure of. I am already format coding my articles to the best of my ability. I think I would have to hire someone to do the big codes for me though. Maybe when I have more of a platform and money to spend, I'll hire a CSS wizard to help me. :)
Week 3: On the Hunt for Inspiration
I've been reading books nonstop for the past few months. I finally finished the Witcher: Blood of Elves. I also read the best of Oscar Wilde. Now I'm reading The Bell Jar. I've been trying to read like a writer, finding inspiration and mistakes in someone else's writing. I get inspired by my professors as well in class. Especially in my Creative Prose class.
I have my writing music playlist, which helps me get in the mood to write. Images though, I'm not too sure of. For Notta though, maybe finding a night sky picture would be good. Notta is the world of eternal night after all. Getting pictures of my parents onto my phone would help as well. Without them, this wouldn't be possible.
Expanding my writing playlist every day!!
Week 4: Harness the Power of Friendship
I've actually been finding local communities all month. I have friends that help me with my essays and personal projects, including my books and worldbuilding. I can't ever thank my real life friends enough for this.
I found a writing group in the city of Dublin called, Writing Wednesdays. Every week, we gather at the cafe and write our projects. It helps me write my first draft in this busy time. Even though I'm not making my Novelember goal, this group helps so I can work on it at all.
WorldAnvil server brings a lot of inspiration as well. I haven't been able to participate lately, but when I do, it's fun and inspiring.
For most of December and January, my schedule will be full of searching for jobs. I'm getting my student visa on the 9th of December, so it's time to look for jobs when the semester in college ends. Meanwhile, I should have plenty of time to worldbuild. I will look for jobs when I get up for the day, take a break, then write and create my articles. During the weekends and Writing Wednesdays, I'll still work on my first draft, or even the second draft of Lunarius's Chosen.
I have somethings planned already to relax and be productive at the same time. Tonight, 28/11/2024, is the Thanksgiving dinner in my American college in Ireland. Then I'm going to a magazine release event where I can make professional connections. After tonight, I will be working on the last of my essays, but I have relax time set up when I'm in my apartment complex. That includes reading books and playing video games. Or watching funny D&D sessions.
