The Great Wilds

Astnyr's Animal Ecosystem

The Wilds of Astnyr

The Great Wilds was mainly untouched, except for trade and traveler routes. Unless Astnyr's citizens needed food for their settlements, they left the animals of the wilds unharmed. The primary hunters of the region were the Frost Giants from Frosthalla since they couldn't grow any of their own food. With meat as their main diet, this worked well for ranching and hunting.   The wilds held mostly vast forest areas, but there were the occasional grass clearings. Life Druids sometimes gathered alchemy supplies from these forests, such as sap, wild fruit and herbs, etc.

Hunters

Hunters from Frosthalla were the major providers for Astnyr when it came to the meat trade. They hunted when necessary and when certain animals threatened the ecosystem of the wilds. The hunters included more ferocious animals in their hunts, earning a reputation as fearless giants of the region.   However, hunters didn't possess winter magic. Hunters used bows and spears to hunt their quarries. They became efficient in these weapons from being self-taught or learned from family members.

Animals Life

Bear

Bear by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The brown bear dived for the water in the river. A waterfall roared beside her as her claws caught a fish for her cubs. She did this every chance she got, for her cubs needed her to give them nutrition and health. The cubs cried for her as she brought the fish back to them between her sharp teeth.   The mother bear gazed up from her cubs as she ate to see a training Beast Druid approach her. This wasn't the first time she had seen one, knowing what this elf was here for. One communed with her own mother. Now it was her turn to help the druid along as her cubs watched in interest.   Leopard

Leopard by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The black leopard's fur shined in the night sky's moon. He gazed up at said moon as he hunted for his prey. An owl's silhouette flew over the moon's glow. However, it glowed alongside the moon instead of creating a shadow. The leopard observed the owl with caution as it touched down on the ground in front of him.   This was no ordinary creature like himself. The owl's eyes glowed a turquoise colour as it looked at the leopard curiously. A sudden white light consumed the owl and transformed into a humanoid form. A ruler of Astnyr had come to visit.   Elk

Elk by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The elk's boned antlers glowed as he looked out for predators of the night. He was the protector of the family he grew as he saw none approach him. Once something did, the glow grew into a blinding shine. This made the predator run in most cases.   However, a hunter was the target this time, shielding her eyes as she approached. Trainers had prepared this hunter to hunt such animals as that elk. Even with her eyes closed and covered, she notched her crossbow. A bolt struck as the elk fell, bleeding from his dead heart. His family ran as he was carried off to Frosthalla.   Gryphon

Gryphon by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The mighty gryphon flew over the wilds looking for prey. She was free to do as she wished in the wilds as one glowing gryphon flew beside her. His glowing golden eyes met hers and became a companion on the hunt. However, they weren't hunting wild animals, but humanoids in this forest.   For some reason, humanoid meat tasted better to the gryphons. They stopped hunting animals since this glowing gryphon became their companions. Especially when these creatures neared Ironhammer. The gryphons noticed a human walking along the wilds looking for herbs. It was time to strike on the hunt.   Horse

Horse by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The horse neighed happily as she walked along with the elf beside her. Earlier that morning, they fed her grain and apples, resulting in a fantastic mood for travel. The elf treated her with kindness and had been a part of this one's life since she was a foal. The elf picked up herbs and tree sap as he walked toward somewhere called Seaport.   Only sometimes, when the elf grew too tired, did he ride the horse. The horse didn't mind. She would do anything for this elf and was happy to trot along the wild's path toward their destination.   Badger

Badger by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The badger dug her way into the dirt ground to hide. A leopard made its appearance, and it was time to survive. As she dug deeper into the dirt, she saw a glowing badger going to the left below her. This one was hiding like her, wasn't it? However, she had a feeling it wasn't from the leopard, but something more sinister as she sensed its fear.   Fox: Now Fecrox

Fox by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The fox coughed weakly as he laid on the grassy ground. For some reason the normally soft grass felt as sharp as a dagger stabbing into him. There was a gas in the air the fox couldn't escape from. It penetrated his lungs like a disease, making him fragile and wishing for more life.   A tall woman approached him in sympathy, offering him a strand of hair. Desperately wanting to live, the fox swallowed the offered morsel. He felt lighter, but stronger. His fur became softer and his teeth sharper. Eyes glowed a sickly green just like the woman's. A new companion was born after near extinction.   Hawk

Hawk by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The hawk perched on a roof in a small village. He observed as humans, elves, and dwarves created paintings and written works. These creatures used artistic talent as their way of living, and the hawk couldn't help but admire the paintings and pretty baubles. One painter looked up at him and worked on their canvas.   The hawk felt he had to stay still, so he did. Tiny breaths taken for the artist's sake. Once the painter was done, they showed it to the hawk. He looked immaculate with elegant strokes of colour. The hawk flew away for his next meal.   Owl

Owl by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The brown owl scanned the ground with his eyes as he flew over the trees. He was looking for prey to eat for the evening, the sky dark with shining stars. She spotted a rabbit that was foolishly out of the bushes. It was time to feast.   Rabbit

The rabbit looked up as he heard hoots coming from above. He knew he shouldn't have escaped his parents, but he wanted to explore. This cost him greatly as the owl swooped down toward him. Ready to kill. The last thing he saw was the owl landing on his form and a beak attacking his fur.   Squirrel

Squirrel by AuthorChase on HeroForge

The squirrel scurried up the tree, searching for acorns that accompany it. One large acorn caught her eye, and she jumped to it. It fell as she landed on it, and she met the soft forest ground along with it. Luckily, the fall didn't harm her as she got her prize. However, a swift boot met the squirrel from a mage, sending her to her death. (sorry, had to put some of my Dark Urge run in here)
