Jidyah

The first stop for overland travelers entering the Emirate of Sulkara, Jidyah rests on the western mountain’s edge and serves as a vital checkpoint and trade station. Jidyah’s people are resilient and welcoming, known for their hospitality to travelers—so long as customs are observed. Storytelling, mountain songs, and practical wisdom dominate local culture. The city holds a Festival of Crosswinds annually, celebrating safe travel and honoring the spirits of the mountains.

Government

Wazir Kevakous Danesh oversees the military and civilian population in and around Jidyah. Lifelong friends of the royal family, he was appointed Wazir by the Emir after a long term of service in an expeditionary fleet to Largus.

Defences

The Cliff Guard, a mix of professional soldiers and conscripted mountain scouts, patrols both the mountain passes and the city walls.
Jidyah features watchtowers integrated into the cliffs, with beacon fires used to send signals deep into Sulkara in times of war or crisis.

Industry & Trade

Jidyah's key industries are overland trade (and the customs tariffs that accompany it), smithing and stonecutting - fueled by trade with Ironhold -and mountain herbs and medicinal trade.
Its famous market, the Crossroads Bazaar, is located near the Lion’s Arch and is famous for exotic imports from the western lands.

Geography

Jidyah is nestled at the edge of the Ashen Range, where the desert gives way to craggy, gray foothills. It's the first major city encountered by overland travelers crossing the mountains from Imenia. Natural stone arches and wind-carved canyons define the surrounding landscape, giving the city a distinct and formidable aura.
The city is built in tiers along the slope, with fortified walls hugging the mountain's base. A massive stone gate, the Lion's Arch, marks the primary overland entrance into the Emirate of Sulkara.
