Har Doral

Located at the source of the Doral River, Har Doral is one of the oldest dwarvish settlements in Iroth. It was founded in the early 500s as a small mining village and since grew to become a massive trading hub in Ironhold, sending small ships down the Doral River to the ocean to meet with merchant vessels.

Industry & Trade

Har Doral’s economy revolves around trade logistics, shipping, and goods refinement. It is the main export point for ores and gemstones mined deeper in the mountains, processed goods from Melgalar, and even crafts using raw material from Dolum. Massive river barges and stout dwarven riverboats are loaded daily under the eyes of the Har Doral Dockmasters. The city is also known for its artificers’ guild, which specializes in enchantments that help preserve goods over long journeys.

History

Originally founded as a military supply depot, Har Doral grew rapidly as its river access made it the perfect node for expanding Ironhold’s trade reach. Over centuries, the fortress-depot became a fortified city, with stone watchtowers overlooking the river and granaries built to withstand siege. It has seen both trade booms and lean winters but has always maintained its reputation for dependability and fierce protection of its river routes.

Points of interest

  • Stonewake Bridge: A triple-arched marvel of dwarven engineering, carved directly from the bedrock.
  • Riverwatch Bastion: A fortress guarding the docks, manned by Ironhold Shields and outfitted with enchanted ballistae.
  • The Weighing Plaza: Every caravan and ship is inspected here, and taxes are assessed to the pebble-weight.
  • The Emberflow Locks: A mechanical lock system that allows dwarven barges to descend or rise in the river during seasonal surges.
  • Geography

Har Doral sits where the jagged foothills of the mountains give way to gentler lowlands. The Doral River, wide and strong, cuts through this transition zone, making the city a natural hub for trade and transport. Stone piers and dry docks line the riverbanks, and narrow bridges arch across the water to connect both halves of the city. Above ground, buildings hug the cliffs in terraced layers, while a network of tunnels and vaulted storehouses sprawl beneath.
