Boyaca

The great agricultural city of Boyaca plays a critical role in feeding the central and coastal cities. Its irrigation networks are marvels of engineering and attract apprentices from many engineering guilds across Iroth.

Demographics

The population here is about 60% fire genasi, but almost 30% humans, making Boyaca the largest permanent population of humans in Sulkara. The class structure here is similar to Hadah - there is an "upper" class of landholders and expert farmers, a "middle" class of skilled laborers and artisans, and a working class of itinerant farm laborers who come in from surrounding small villages for the harvest.

Government

Boyaca is led by mayor Aida Khaledi, a pragmatic fire genasi agronomist and a devout follower of Chauntea, the goddess of agriculture. While loyal to the Emir, Aida has fiercely protected her region's autonomy and is very popular at home, and even with some on the royal council.

Defences

Boyaca lacks major fortifications but has a militia defense force, and is only 1-2 days away from reinforcements from Muzat.

Industry & Trade

Primarily an agricultural hub, Boyaca makes its money from supporting the Emirate, and abroad, with its grain and spices, including sunwheat and flamebarley, both integral for brewing the strong ales of Honeybrook Isle. Boyaca's other products include dried fruits, livestock like desert goats and lean cattle, and a multitude of spices.
Boyaca is also known for its massive seasonal market every fall, the Harvest Confluence, attracting traders from across Sulkara and even some international visitors.
