Amphalos
Amphalos is the quiet heart of contemplation in Imenia, a city built not for conquest or commerce, but for the life of the mind. Tucked into low golden hills and shaded by groves of olive and juniper, it is a city of white columns, soft breezes, and deep arguments. Amphalos is home to the Republic’s greatest minds: philosophers, mystics, historians, and clerics of all stripes. Its atmosphere is at once reverent and challenging; a place where ancient ideas are preserved and new ones fiercely debated.
Government
Amphalos is overseen by a Council of Stewards, elected by each of the recognized scholarly guilds and religious colleges, rotating amongst themselves to serve as Archon.
Industry & Trade
Amphalos is home to most of Imenia's institutions of higher learning, including schools of law, medicine, engineering, and even an old magic college. It trades not in goods but services, providing aid in contracts, health, and performing any number of other functions to traveling caravans and merchants.

Architecture
Amphalos is built around the Axis Forum, a serene plaza where the most respected schools hold public debates. From there, quiet cobblestone paths lead to courtyards, monasteries, and academies, all housed in pale marble and ivy-covered stone. The city avoids fortifications and markets, prioritizing gardens, libraries, and amphitheaters.
A central structure, the House of Nine Lights, sits on a low rise and glows with magical sigils after sunset. It is both a temple and philosophical center, where nine major disciplines (including logic, ethics, magic, and natural philosophy) are taught and contested.
