Abdelis

Abdelis is a city of gold and grit, where merchant lords shape policy more than philosophers, and a handshake can hold more weight than law. Located on the central crossroads of northern Imenia, it is a vital artery for trade between the western ports, the inland agricultural centers, and the forges of the mountains beyond. Though it lacks the refinement of Sippia or the bureaucratic sprawl of Pasos, Abdelis makes up for it with ambition, adaptability, and a relentless appetite for profit.
A city of deals and dialogue, Abdelis reveres negotiation as both art and strategy. Temples to Athione (god of commerce and foresight) are numerous, often doubling as public archives or notary houses. However, shrines to Lathander and other deities of light and law are common in private residences.
The city also prides itself on its Festival of Promises, a yearly event where contracts are signed in public rituals, and traders from across Imenia gather to forge alliances (and break old ones).

Government

Abdelis is governed by a Magisterial Council, with positions bought, earned, or traded through influence. Each year, an Archon is elected from among the council to act as spokesperson and chief arbitrator.
In practice, most of the city’s decisions are made by the Chamber of Coin, a powerful consortium of merchant guild leaders who control economic policy, tariffs, and trade law enforcement.

Architecture

The city spreads like a web around its central forum: the Platea Emporika, a vast open marketplace ringed with merchant houses, auction towers, and counting halls. Beyond this core, the Crimson Ring district holds the estates of wealthy traders and minor nobles, while the Low Quarters sprawl with artisans, couriers, and traders. A towering structure known as the Ledgerkeep rises above all, a semi-fortified guildhall and vault operated by the city’s mercantile coalition.
Streets are broad and paved with riverstone, and banners in dozens of colors flap from tiled roofs, each signifying a different guild, syndicate, or merchant league.
