The magic that runs through your blood is not the stuff of
Fey trickery,
alien minds, or
dragonfire. It is human magic—ancient, self-forged, and unflinching in the face of opposition. Your ancestry is a scroll of forgotten monarchs, archmages, and peerless generals whose names built empires. You are the latest in an unbroken chain of ambition, talent, and brilliance, drawn from golden ages long collapsed into ruin. Though most common in the ancient noble lines of
Cetandar and
Lungao, the Imperious bloodline can manifest in any scion whose legacy is steeped in mortal greatness and magic. Whether you are a born leader, a self-made paragon, or the destined echo of human potential, your magic reflects the will of that of your ancestors.
Sorcerers of this bloodline often bear uncanny presences—noble brows, resonant voices, and a gaze that silences rooms. Many are born under auspicious signs or accompanies by omens, and more than a few are mistaken for reincarnations of their great forebears due to nearly invariably being born with a likeness uncomfortably similar to them.
Restriction: Race
The lineages of the Imperious Bloodline only manifest in
Humans, and thus no other race can take this subclass.
Bloodline Spells
1st-Level Sorcerer (Imperious Bloodline) Feature
Your magical bloodline has infused you with the ability to cast certain spells. At 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th level, you gain access to bloodline spells connected to your particular bloodline.
Once you gain access to a bloodline spell, you always have access to it, it can't be changed to a different spell when you gain a level, and it doesn't count against your number of spells known. If you gain access to a spell that doesn't appear on the sorcerer spell list, the spell is nonetheless a sorcerer spell for you. A listed spell is of a base level equal to your highest level sorcerer spell slot at a given level, even if it is of a different level for other classes. For example, if you gain a spell at 5th level, that is a 3rd-level Sorcerer spell for you, even if it is normally a different level.
Student of Humanity
1st-Level Sorcerer (Imperious Bloodline) Feature
You gain proficiency in Persuasion and Culture, and when you make a Culture check related to humans, treat that check as through you have Expertise. In addition, you learn one language of your choice from among Botari, Cavellan, Cetandari, Fahryte, Khumus, Maherasi, Ryushin, Thorcin, Thornlayan, or Wiskin.
Heroic Echo
1st-Level Sorcerer (Imperious Bloodline) Feature
When you are affected by a
Morale spell or effect that gives you a bonus to a roll, you gain a +1 bonus to any dice gained from it, such as causing
Bless to grant you a 1d4+1 bonus rather than 1d4.
Additionally, when you cast a
Morale spell that targets more than one creature, you can choose to extend the +1 bonus to all affected allies as well.
Take Your Best Shot
6th-Level Sorcerer (Imperious Bloodline) Feature
Your defiance becomes a weapon. When a creature targets you with a supernatural effect, spell, or psionic ability and you succeed on your saving throw, you can use a reaction to make a
Demoralize check against the source of the effect. If you suffer no adverse effects from the triggering effect, you have advantage on the Charisma (Intimidation) check made to Demoralize. You do not have disadvantage on this check due to not sharing a language unless the target is
human.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Sorcerer Power Reservoir, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Heroic Legends
14th-Level Sorcerer (Imperious Bloodline) Feature
You can channel your mythic heritage to stir greatness in yourself and others. As a bonus action, you may expend 5 or more Sorcery Points to inspire heroism. When you do so, choose one of the following effects:
- Inspire Greatness. You and one willing creature that can see or hear you within 30 feet of you gain temporary hit points equal to twice the number of Sorcery Points expended + your Charisma modifier. In addition, each target has advantage on the next attack roll they make within 1 minute.
- Inspire Heroics. Choose up to three creatures that can see or hear you within 30 feet of you. Each target gains a +1 bonus to AC and saving throws for 1 minute.
These effects require Concentration, and this is a
Morale effect. Humans affected by this ability gain Temporary Hit Points equal to your Sorcerer level. This stacks with the temporary hit points from Inspire Greatness.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Sorcerer Power Reservoir, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Imperious Legacy
18th-Level Sorcerer (Imperious Bloodline) Feature
You embody the greatness of your bloodline. You no longer age and cannot be magically aged (Though you can still die from old age as normal). You no longer require food, drink, or sleep. You gain immunity to necrotic damage, negative energy damage, and to effects that would reduce your maximum hit points, and to the following conditions:
Charmed,
Corruption,
Doomed,
Exhaustion, and
Frightened.
