On the night of the sixth day of the sixth month of the year 666, a large rift opened in the Market Square of the Elven capital city, Isrannore. Demons poured into the city, causing mass chaos and a large number of casualties. The Elven city guard, armies and mages were unable to stem the tide of demons entering the material planes, and the city fell to demon control, with a number of elves escaping via teleportation or foot. In the following months the demonic army spread, overtaking the whole of Miriel, and then the Northeastern country of Draconia. Moving through orc herdlands, either co-opting or destroying Orcish tribes, the demonic horde besieged the Southern Dwarven Clans. Due to the Dwarves unwillingness to set aside internal struggles between clans, they were quickly overrun. The demons then turned westward, making quick work of the Halfling kingdom of the South Marsh, and working their way up the Iron Peaks to conquer the Western Dwarven Clans. These clans, however, banned together and were able to hold the Western side of the Mountain Range and the Dwarven Stronghold of Kir Darul against the invaders, with significant help from the Arethian Empire. Thus a stalemate was achieved, and for years afterwards, demons only made small, manageable incursions into the mountains in an attempt to breach them. Many believes that the Gods themselves granted some protection to the Iron Peaks to prevent Abyssal influence from overtaking the entirety of the continent.
