Sir Lanval (a.k.a. Sir Lanval of the Fairy Queen’s Court)
Lanval’s tale is unlike the others — he did not come to Tír na nÓg by Avalon’s ferry, but through the favor of the Fairy Queen herself. In mortal days, he was a knight of renown who fell into disfavor at Arthur’s court, only to find salvation and love in the arms of a mysterious queen from beyond the mortal veil.
The Fairy Queen’s realm became his refuge, a place where the honor-bound strictures of mortal knighthood were tempered by the freedoms of otherworldly life. When Tír na nÓg opened its gates to beings of many realms, Lanval arrived already accustomed to its wonders.
Here, he is both an emissary and a romantic figure, moving easily between courts and meadows, his presence a reminder that not all departures from Albion were born of battle.
Lanval is a patron of the arts and a quiet advocate for those who find themselves between worlds, lending his voice to ensure no traveler is left without welcome.
