Alteran (awl-TEHR-an)

The Alterans are ancient beings of light and intellect, believed to have transcended the constraints of physical form long before the rise of modern sentient life in the Mortal Realm. Their presence in Tir na nÓg is rare but revered—regarded less as an elder race and more as a bridge between divinity and mortality. They are not born but remembered, their essence a reconstitution of memory, frequency, and intention.   Though ethereal in appearance, Alterans are anything but insubstantial. Their forms radiate awareness, not simply illuminating a space but attuning it to contemplation. When one appears, it is often at moments of decision, when a soul is adrift or a truth must surface. They are drawn not to worship or power but to wisdom—serving not as masters, but as gentle custodians of insight.   Their society lacks hierarchy, guided instead by consensus and resonance. Knowledge is not taught but shared, passed through patterns of light and harmonic memory. To be among Alterans is to stand within a living archive—each word a fragment of cosmic history, each gesture echoing across dimensions.   Though some speak of the Alterans as emotionless, this is misinterpretation. Their emotional spectrum is profound but subtly expressed, woven into the rhythm of their energy rather than the expression of a face or tone. When they grieve, the stars dim. When they rejoice, the wind stills.   Interactions with others are never casual. Alterans do not intrude, but they do arrive—just as a question forms, or a boundary is breached. Their arrival is felt more than seen, an expansion of awareness, a weightless pressure behind the eyes. Few ever speak with them, and fewer still understand, but those who do are rarely unchanged.   They do not lead, command, or interfere. They attend. They observe. They remember. And within their quiet, radiant presence lies the suggestion that perhaps memory itself is sacred—and being, the echo of something far older.
