Volyr Canyon

Volyr Canyon is the third and southernmost canyon forged by the Breaking. Volyr Canyon is deeper than Sontar Canyon but very narrow in comparison to both Sontar and Aldon Canyons. It runs toward the southwest where it eventually meets the Southern Sea. Very little exploration has been done of this canyon as early attempts revealed very little veingold.   Stories of disappearances were rampant at the time of initial exploration, but things have remained relatively quiet since then, save for the odd disappearance of those wanderers or trail too closely to the canyon's edge. It has been claimed by a few that Volyr Canyon is home to fierce, sharp fanged night walkers and massive, winged creatures borne from stone. Some have attempted to disprove this claim, but those few have not returned to tell the tale of what they found. The more superstitious ones who hear these stories say the adventurers have been slain; drained of all their blood and joined with those who killed them. They say they are the living dead. Others simply believe them to have found something interesting and decided not to come back.   Those with more knowledge of history, or perhaps maybe just those who've been around long enough, are well aware of Ziro the Sanguinary Scientist and his quite questionable experiments and practices. Ziro, at one point, did conduct a series of experiments on willing Elves which may or may not have resulted in the creation of beings fitting the descriptions of those which the whispers say live in the depths of Volyr Canyon. Of course the "willingness" of said Elves has been questioned on more than one occasion, though the proper paperwork was always proffered upon request to the authorities when they came calling.
