Spooktober 2025: Downfallen
My plans to do one Spooktober prompt per day have fallen apart, as with pretty much all of my creative plans this month, thanks to the bear that is The Blood of Seven Queens #6—easily the most difficult issue yet for me.
I don’t remember much of what prompted me to create this art piece days ago, except that I discovered the word “downfallen” isn’t really a word at all. It’s exclusively a Tolkien thing, which makes sense given that the theme of this Spooktober is the 70th Anniversary of The Lord of the Rings, but it sounds like it should be a word—unlike, say, pocketses.
Anyway, according to my little bit of Internet sleuthing, the word “downfallen” was used by Númenórean refugees to describe their lost homeland. That got me thinking about my False Kings—a group of evil bastards, yes, but a bunch of guys who would also long for their lost homeland upon their arrival in Eden.

Today I found out that the word "downfallen" was created by Tolkien! Thanks for the info! I also had grand ideas for Spooktober, but have yet to do anything! So you're way ahead of me!

Well, there's still time if you want to join in. And thing my therapist and I keep working on: no pressure if you don't! I'm trying to remember that.
