Sky Father’s Pact
The Sky Father’s Pact is the foundational religious text of the Church of the Sky. According to legend, the wind whispered it to the elves in the year 537 BCE—alongside the first telling of “The One About the Sky Father.”
Purpose
The purpose of the Sky Father’s Pact is to establish the tenets of faith for the Church of the Sky. Through the use of poetic language and a short, ordered list, the Sky Father and his first worshippers sought to create a memorable set of moral instructions which could be passed on by word of mouth and remembered by all—regardless of their level of education.
Content
- We are all children of the same father, and a father shall have no favorites.
- Quarrel with your brother if you must, but never strike him.
- Belief is nothing without action.
- Speak truly to all, including yourself.
- Share your good fortune.
- Listen to the wind for future revelations. A good father never stops learning, and he may have more to share in times to come.
History
The pact was passed down by word of mouth for a good long while before it was first carved into the towering pillars inside elven lodges. Those first carvings were the subject of great disputes on the homeworld, particularly in the capital (where the Covenant of the Godless, while not a state religion, held sway). And yet, eventually, the Children of the Sky were allowed to worship as they saw fit. After that, they carved their laws in monuments across their territory.
Since the arrival of elves in Eden, the words of the Sky Father’s Pact have found new life in secular spaces. Edenians of all stripes, whether they believe in the Sky Father or not, have taken comfort in these instructions for living more simply and with more compassion.
The commandments/tenets are actually really good. I like "Speak truly, including to yourself" is great AND tough to do!

Yes, indeedy! And thanks for the kudos. These were inspired, in part, by the core "testimonies" of the Quakers. One of my best friends in college was a Quaker and she remains one of the most awesome people I know.
