Newest Orleans
Newest Orleans is one of Eden’s ten facsimile cities, a near-perfect copy of the Earthling city of New Orleans. It is the county seat of Oz’s Quadling Country and has served as the home for the The Witch of the South since the The Invasion of Oz in 142.
Geography & Climate
The city sits astride the easternmost part of the River Quad, near the place where that waterway spills into the Bay of Beauty. It is a low, flat place, warm-to-hot year-round, with high humidity.
Notable Landmarks
Newest Orleans, like the Earthling city it is a copy of, offers an incredible blend of architectural styles. It’s a bit French, a bit Spanish, a little bit English, and a whole lot else. Since the halflings were granted stewardship of Eden at the end of the First Age, elements of their traditional Polynesian culture have even begun to creep into the city.
The French Quarter serves as the hub of the city’s night life, and is a popular tourist destination for Edenians of all stripes. Rue Bourbon, in particular, is known for its dedication to debauchery. The world’s first Quadling Cathouse can be found here, along with a veritable cornucopia of bars, strip clubs, and jazz joints.
St. Charles Avenue is famous for its opulent mansions, among them Casa Rosada—the home of Glinda the Good. It is also one of the city’s most popular parade routes, used to celebrate Mardi Gras, The Festival of the Five Moons, and many more Edenian holidays.
Lastly, Metairie Cemetery, the largest burial ground in the city—and the most tree-lined and park-like—is home to the most spectacular Halloween and Día de Los Muertos festivities in Eden. It is here that the Sister Goddesses part the Veil of the World once per year and allow the living and the dead to reunite—so long as the dead don’t try to leave the cemetery and the living don’t try to descend into the depths of the Undercurrent.
