Session 94: Lore and More

General Summary

  • The conversation with Kallock resumed, and many important things were discussed. Kallock informed the Crew that Brother Halien was a cautious ally — he seems to see and know things others cannot, and Kallock considers him a cautious, enigmatic ally. It is only Halien that knows Kallock's real name. To the rest of the Library, Kallock is known as Professor Dael Kalypsa, meaning "of Kalypa" in the Quori language. When asked about this location, he said it was where he was raised, and that it was destroyed by the Inpsired. He would speak no more of it, telling Ashpin he could return alone to discuss it.
  • Kallock then gave them a dossier of locations he has discerned to be hubs of the Inspired. It represented the culmination of his work in the Library, hunting down old, scarce lore that the world seems unaware of.
  • And yet, he still hasn’t found where the Dreaming Dark originate from. In his words, "even they seem to have forgotten". He says that, as Ashpin should understand, there is a strange dissonance between the internal certainty of the kalashtar and what the world presents as true.
  • At the approval of Ashpin, N'nchyk discussed what he knew about the daelkyr, and their seeming association with the Dreaming Dark. Kallock knew not of the daelkyr, but sought to make N'nchyk fully aware of the burden that lay upon his shoulders — if only N'nchyk knew of and understood the daelkyr, and they were truly as dangerous as N'nchyk said, it was up to him to protect this plane from them.
  • The Crew moved on to learn many things from many places. From Balinor's Horn: cosmic disturbances, the Talenta Plains, and Thiccok Nigrix. From the Tabernacle: the Dreaming Dark, Harbingers, Sophists, Thiccok Nigrix, the Silver Crusade, and a text called the Great Orbit of Realms with a particularly distressing chapter on Xoriat. From Soladas College: the Ironroot Mountains, King Boranel ir'Wynarn, the House of Wynarn, the Dragonmarked Houses, Galifarian Politics and the Relations of the Last War, the Mourning, and Thiccok Nigrix. From the Nullarium, the Pit of Five Sorrows, magical contracts, and the Mourning.
  • Also, within the Nullarium, the Crew sought Forbidden access from the inscrutable High Archivist Vindle Quorrick. After roundabout refusals, declined trades, and vague threats, it was eventually revealed that the Crew could earn trust with the Library quickly — through danger. The Library had received word of a long-lost Dhakaani tablet — an artifact known as the Tyrant Codex. The sought-after fragment supposedly contains proto-Goblin script that references the origins of Droaam’s monstrous rulers, possible connections to ancient pact magic, and clues as to the goblinoid empire’s downfall. A field researcher sent to investigate has gone missing near the borderlands between western Droaam and Breland. The Crew needs to locate the missing researcher, retrieve the artifact, and assess the truth of rumors that the artifact is in the hands of a medusa warlord, being moved toward The Great Crag. Upon doing so, the Library would register them as Scrollbound Envoys — a trusted status that opens future quests, access to Forbidden knowledge, and full use of the Library’s resources.
  • From Morridan College, the Crew learned from Doctor Axiom about a lost treatise on yugoloths and true names, as well as discovered more about Thiccok Nigrix. Additionally, in this college, quite a few texts in this college seem overwritten somehow — key formulas contradict one another, some theorems are censored, and confusing footnotes contain messages like “This is not true”, “To see why this is nonsense, reference [another text]”, “The foundations of this claim do not exist” in dark, dripping text. No clear pattern seems to emerge from these eccentricities.
  • At night, the Crew retired to the Inkpot Commons, participating in trivia night. However, they were bested by the current reigning trivia champion, Brassibubbled Tindlelooprung.
