The Wizard of the South
Evriras Zeran (a.k.a. The Wizard of the South, Eternal Shield of Valon)
Overview
Evriras is remembered throughout Valon as the brilliant archmage who ended The Great Magic War by vanquishing the Witch of the North. Celebrated as a hero, a scholar, and the spiritual founder of the Cleansing Age, his image is enshrined in monuments and schoolbooks alike.
But the truth is far darker. Evriras is no mere wizard—he is a lich, one who achieved immortality not by overcoming death, but by using his former friend and companion Yiyi as the anchor of his phylactery. Where history paints him as a savior, time itself remembers him as a betrayer of ideals.
Early Life and Meeting Yiyi
Little is known of Evriras’ early life. Some claim he studied in the arcane towers of Erellon, others say he was cast out of Miraland for unlawful magical research. Regardless of origin, his fate was sealed when he washed ashore on an island in the Silent Sea, meeting the exiled priestess Shui Qiao—who would later become known as Yiyi.
The two formed a deep, intellectual bond. They taught one another, debated the nature of time, and dreamed of a world where mages would be free. Evriras, however, already showed signs of obsession with death and control. While Yiyi sought to uplift, Evriras sought to dominate.
Arcane Philosophy and Magic
Evriras is a master of Arcane Architecture, Ritual Necromancy, and Temporal Anchoring.
- Temporal Binding: His phylactery is not an object, but a person: Yiyi. By anchoring his soul to her suspended timeline, he cannot be destroyed unless she is released.
- Silent Command: He commands armies without speaking, using necromantic runes that transmit orders instantly to the undead.
- Chrono-Phage Sigils: Advanced rituals that consume seconds, minutes, or hours from victims to fuel greater spells.
- Spellweaving: Evriras was once known for his beautiful, symmetrical spell design - now twisted into precise instruments of entropy.
Publicly, he is remembered as a conjurer of radiant shields, a protector who stood beside Gyffard Crovan during the war. Privately, he raised whole armies of the dead to counter Yiyi’s dragons.
Role in the Great Magic War
Evriras returned to Valon shortly after Yiyi transformed High king Golmund Crovan into a tree. He stood beside the new High King, Gyffard, acting as strategist and symbolic counterbalance to the Free Accord.
To the public, he was the Wizard of the South, savior of Newmire, and last master of pure human spellcraft.
But in truth, he pursued only one goal: eternal existence. And to achieve it, he would use the person who once called him family.
He met Yiyi again in secret, beneath a sky locked in dusk. She hoped to negotiate peace. He offered her his hand—and then sealed her in a time-looped moment of trust, freezing her within the Realm of Time.
Through her, he became a lich.
He told the world she was gone. That she had destroyed herself. And he wept before crowds he had already lied to.
Legacy and Deception
Today, Evriras is hailed in Miraland and Erellon as a divine protector of order. His image is chiseled into libraries and citadels.
But across Eslira and Huichon, his name is spoken only in curse.
Some necromancers worship him in secret as the first mortal god of undeath. Others hunt his echoes—fragments of rituals that still linger in cursed places.
And in the darkest corners of the Realm of Time, his true soul can sometimes be seen—a cold spark hovering near the frozen figure of Yiyi, drawing power with every passing second.
He does not fear death.
He fears what Yiyi might become if she ever escapes.
