Vanest
The Second Circle
“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.”- Gendris Offenfeld, Realm Explorer
Vanest is comprised of the vanities of the world. Compared to the flat bloody planes of Wrathia, Vanest is a chasm of mirrors in which your deepest desires are envisioned. The entrance is that of the structural ends of a broken bridge residing over the deep dark chasm. The cries, screams and moans from the chasm will be heard. The bridge itself is lined in gold statues of the lustful, separated at the left and right of the bridge with purple lightning arching between them. This is what encompasses the abyss that is Vanest.
The center-piece and main section of the circle is the floating castle that stands out of the chasm. The great citadel-spire of Malsheem, home to Asmodeus. Malsheem resembles a gigantic hollowed-out stalagmite covered in mirrors. Within these mirrors are the souls that fell to the desires of Vanest. Convincing him to release even one of those souls comes at a steep price, and it is rumoured that the Archduke of Lust, Asmodeus has claimed whole kingdoms in the past for such favours. The tower also acted as a focal point for the violent purple lightning storms that swirled around it, ensnaring the souls of the lustful for eternity.
The Tower itself had many floors, and its architecture and decor continued with the theme of deep and dark desire. For example, the pillars might via illusion magic appear to form the shape of what you desire the most. A wind-powered elevator system is the only method of reaching the upper floors and pinnacle of the Tower.
