The Red Matron
May Lady Strategy Guide Our Path
The Red Matron is a fierce and cunning deity, revered by warriors and tacticians throughout the land of Eastrix. The Red Matron is a war god commonly associated with strategy and battle tactics but has primarily always acted as the anthesis of Zepthrion the Dark Hunger in the Eastrixian pantheon. While many might think being a war goddess would mean that she would but an idle viewer of war, the Red Matron in the early days of the Elder Times fought alongside her worshippers, but her aid has always been synonymous with military prowess. War is in her very being and through that it has also come to be a part of her love. Despite her being an anthesis to Zepthrion, Zepthrion is her true love decreed by the strings of fate. It's through this decree that she has begun to instead direct her efforts of war toward the final goal of war, peace. Tales tell that she, in the moment of being described her fate, said, "My nature calls me to war, and so, I shall go to war. But I shall go to war, not for the glory, not for the honor, not for the violence, but for its ending. For the day we truly can be at peace, is the day that I and my destined man's worship dies". This has begun a great teaching for the followers of the modern-day Red Matron. They fight the wars, to end them. Many has therefore called the Red Matron a paradoxical occurrence in Eastrix. She is a god of both war and peace. You can find the worship of the Red Matron in many places but common ground is before battles or within militaries, where a prayer for peace will be heard.
Depiction.
The Red Matron has always appeared in blood-red plate mail, with a sword on her hip and a shield on her back. She always covers her face with a red helmet depicting a knight chess piece. Few depictions have been found of the Red Matron in which she is seen without her armor. In these depictions, she is often depicted as a beautiful woman with long flowing hair and piercing dark blue eyes. She is also sometimes depicted as a matronly figure, with a stern expression and a commanding presence.
Holy Day
The Red Matron’s holy day is called the Redding and is celebrated during the fifth day of the second ten-day of Solar Solstice. On this day the moons of Eastrix turn red. Whilst many believe the red moon to be a sign of vampirism, it is believed by followers of the Red Matron that it is, in fact, the tears of the Matron cried for those who have fallen. The Redding is a day of respect and solitude used to remember those that keep countries safe and those who have fallen.
