Sorashana (So-ras-sha-na)
Necrons, Nations, and Narratives
Sorashana, a vast and storied continent, has been home to numerous civilizations over countless eons. Throughout its rich history, kingdoms and empires, each leaving an indelible mark on the landscape and the collective memory of the world, have risen and fallen.
The Sol Dominion was one of the earliest significant powers on Sorashana. Based on the local interpretation of Mother Sun Tali, Solra, the Dominion came into prominence during the Age of Mighty Arcanum. A time of flourishing magic and burgeoning cultures that lasted from -369 to -293 B.E., the age saw the rise of the Dominion as an influential force.
However, the molding of Sorashana marked a profound shift in the continent's history. The Necrons, a mysterious and powerful force, overtook Sorashana and reshaped it to their will. This act of magical prowess birthed the nation of Necromuda, which served as the base of operations for the ominous Cult of the Damned from -285 to -248 B.E.
Following the downfall of Necromuda, Sorashana entered a period of peace, which led to the ascension of the dwarven kingdom of Khazadthur. Located in the northern reaches of the continent and centered around the world mountain Frystdrassil, the reign of King Brawin saw Khazadthur expand its borders to Thur's Krak and the Rune Rill River.
Sorashana's heartland is home to the enigmatic empire of Zubia, located within the arid expanses of the Zahtara Desert. Known for its insularity and enigmatic aura, Zubia has been the subject of countless rumors, including that it is the realm of demigods, though no confirmation of this speculation exists.
In the modern era, two significant powers have risen – the Undertow Union and the Pride Kingdoms. The Pride Kingdoms, once a formidable alliance, have recently disbanded following the revelation that their ruling Monarchery Council was influenced by a cultist of Amanar. The scandal, known as the Rot in Eastrix, shook the continent and led to the downfall of the coalition.
In contrast, the Undertow Union remains strong and united. Following the unanimous election of their founder, Catherine Umpire, as president ellect, the union embarked on a new era. President Umpire, aware of the weight of her role, has guided her nation with wisdom and patience, preparing them for the systemic changes ahead. To mark their evolution and status as a fully-fledged nation, the Undertow Union has officially changed its name to Libertailia. This new country has also taken a stand by refusing to affiliate with any of the former countries of the Pride Kingdoms, except for Crimson Cross. The latter has now become a part of Libertailia, except for a small part that chose to remain with Accardia. Thus, Sorashana remains a continent of ancient secrets, political intrigue, and ceaseless change.
Geography
Spanning vast distances, Sorashana boasts a rich variety of geographical and natural wonders that leave any visitor in awe. With its rugged mountains, lush plains, sparkling coastlines, and untamed jungles, it truly is a continent that captures the essence of nature's majesty.
At the heart of Sorashana, piercing the sky, stands the world mountain Frystdrassil. Revered by many as a conduit to communicate with the gods, this awe-inspiring mountain draws numerous dwarves and gnomes to its base. Their reverence for the divine and the intrinsic connection they feel with stones have led them to settle in the vicinity of this magnificent natural wonder. They have also imparted their culture and language to the surrounding terrain. Hence, Thur's Krak is now referred to as Gabil Duzbaran, while the former Blue Pass has been renamed to Tharak Zahar. The Rune Rill River, owing to its dwarven heritage, retained its original name.
To the south of Sorashana, the primeval jungles of Prim Isla stretch out in a riot of green. This region's untamed wilderness and lush vegetation present a stunning spectacle of raw, natural beauty. However, the island's beauty is tinged with danger, as the jungle is home to numerous untamed beasts and presents many challenges to the unprepared traveler.
To the west, the Diamond Coast and the Grand Roc Mountains form an extraordinary juxtaposition. The coastline is renowned for its breathtaking sparkle, as the sun's rays strike the ocean, creating a spectacle likened to a field of shimmering diamonds. This beauty contrasts sharply with the formidable Grand Roc Mountains, which loom ominously over the land. These towering peaks are known for their resident giant Roc birds, contributing further to the region's mystery and allure.
Stretching along the foothills of the Grand Roc Mountains, lush vineyards paint a picturesque landscape, their vibrant colors dancing in the wind and sunlight. Here, the people of Sorashana cultivate fine wines that are coveted across the continent.
Despite the careful mapping of Sorashana, there remain vast expanses yet to be fully discovered. These uncharted territories, much like the wilderness of Manou, add a sense of intrigue and mystery to the continent. Thus, Sorashana embodies a grand tapestry of geographical wonders, a testament to nature's boundless beauty and diversity.
Climate
Sorashana, with its sprawling terrain and diverse geographical features, presents a wide array of climates that fluctuate dramatically from region to region.
Centered in Sorashana is the monumental world mountain Frystdrassil within the confines of Khazadthur. This region experiences a highland climate with cooler temperatures due to its elevated position. The weather can be unpredictable, with chilly, clear days swiftly giving way to cold gusts and sudden snowfalls. The higher you ascend, the harsher the conditions become. Nonetheless, the resilient dwarves and gnomes residing here have adapted to the environment and built communities thriving amidst the crisp mountain air.
Adjacent to Khazadthur is Accordia, characterized by a temperate climate with a comfortable balance of warm summers and cool winters. It experiences moderate rainfall throughout the year, lending to its lush green landscapes and flourishing biodiversity.
Qanvana, situated next to Khazadthur, has a distinctly different climate. Dominated by extensive savannahs, the region experiences a tropical wet and dry climate with two distinct seasons - a wet season and a significantly longer dry season.
Libertailia, home to the Grand Roc Mountains and the Diamond Coast, surprisingly shares its climate with Tenarius, located on the opposite side of the continent. Both regions have a Mediterranean climate marked by warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The coastal areas, especially, enjoy gentle sea breezes that temper the heat of the summer sun.
Situated next to Libertailia and Tenarius, respectively, are Talara and Tuetoenia, with climates comparable to Scandinavia. Here, the winters can be long and bitterly cold, while the summers are typically short and mild. These regions experience frequent snow during the colder months, transforming the landscapes into winter wonderlands.
The elusive Zubia houses the Desert of Zhatara, displaying a typical desert climate. The days are scorchingly hot, while the nights can be surprisingly cold due to the rapid loss of heat once the sun sets. Rainfall is sporadic and scant, creating arid landscapes and unique desert-adapted life forms.
Prim Isla, despite being a lone island, has a tropical rainforest climate characterized by high temperatures and heavy rainfall throughout the year. The dense jungle thrives under such conditions, resulting in rich biodiversity.
Overall, the climate of Sorashana varies significantly across its expanse, reflecting the continent's geographical diversity and rich mix of ecosystems.
History
In 293 B.E., powerful Magic Bringers Rakjiavik and Zavix turned into the first lichs, later known as Necrons. They ravaged Sorashana, altered its landscape and political boundaries, leading to the rise of the two nations, Zubia and Lafenia.
From 285 B.E. to 281 B.E., the Necron Invasion of Sorashana took place, reshaping the island from 280 B.E. to 270 B.E. By 248 B.E., Sorashana was isolated from the rest of the world, leading to a proliferation of religions till 132 B.E., paralleled by Minroth's attempt to cleanse the Cult of its indecencies.
In 100 B.E., Vecna and Minroth cast a powerful spell which influenced the world. Meanwhile, starting from 189 B.E. to 105 B.E., a process of normalization began.
A conflict began in 368 I.E. known as The War of Sorashana between The Undertow Union and The Pride Kingdoms. This conflict significantly affected the region of Crimson Cross.
Moonshore experienced a significant economic boom in 373 I.E. However, the prosperity was short-lived as a religious war broke out by 378 I.E. between The Light Disciples of Lathander and The Jusdisdayian League.
In 383 I.E., the city of Moonshore was destroyed under mysterious circumstances. In the same year, Tenarius, an independent country tied to the Pride Kingdoms, was founded and later attacked. Despite the tragedies, three adventurers banded together to save a village and got entangled in a continent-wide conflict.
In 408 I.E., a new group of adventurers emerged, embarking on a quest to investigate the Shadows of Prouzzyia, starting a new chapter in the history of Sorashana.
The stoy of Sorashana continues to this day.
