Auras
All beings that possess a soul also possess a spiritual aura, which is a small part of the soul that extends beyond the body. It’s composed of loose nimata and diffuse dyne that threads off from the edges of the soul. For most creatures throughout the universe, the spiritual aura only extends for a few millimetres beyond the body and is so weak that it can only be detected by very spiritually sensitive beings.
As souls grow in power and complexity however, the aura extends farther from the body and becomes denser in dyne. In beings that also possess Theosis and/or Iconoclasm in their souls, there’s a critical threshold in the density of dyne in their aura where it begins to manifest directly in the physical world without a requirement for the observer to have any spiritual awareness. A spiritual aura that manifests in the physical world is said to have condensed. Condensed auras are only seen in beings that possess the ousia of Theosis and/or Iconoclasm, as dyne doesn’t directly interact with the physical world otherwise.
These beings need to confine their auras within their body due to the effect they can have on the world around them, especially if they are spiritually powerful.
The effect of a condensed spiritual aura varies greatly from soul to soul, as it's strongly influenced by the emotionally and psychologically dependant Theosis and Iconoclasm. There are some general features present however.
If the power disparity is too great, then a ‘brain fog’ can be experienced by people in range of a spiritually powerful being’s aura when they release it into their surroundings. This mental fog causes difficulties in concentration, thinking, memory, speech, body-mind coordination (affecting agility, precision, etc), and causes sensory hallucinations.
In extreme circumstances where the power disparity is too great, there can be severe effects such as psychosis, the loss of motion in one or several limbs, total paralysis similar to sleep paralysis, loss of one or more sensory channels, psychosomatic induced physiological side effects (such as breathlessness, headaches/pain, panic, palpitations and vomiting), brief or prolonged lapses in consciousness, or coma. Obviously, these can result in death if sustained for too long.
These side-effects are the result of the immense spiritual aura of the powerful being interfering with the link between the brain and the soul in the less powerful beings. The connection is squeezed, causing a bottleneck. If squeezed too much then it can sever altogether, which would manifest as instant death.
The initial act of releasing a spiritual aura can have physical effects, on top of the sustained mental, spiritual and psychosomatic effects of the aura itself afterwords. Matter tends to absorb some amount of energy and momentum from an expanding aura via psikinetic transfers. This will manifest as a shockwave of some kind, depending on the surrounding medium and materials, and the power of the aura being released. This can vary from a slight breeze in the air with objects being lightly disturbed, to violent pressure shockwaves that obliterate surrounding objects as would be seen with kiloton explosions. Significant thermal heating can also occur.
To avoid this from happening, a slow release is usually performed. This avoids the physically destructive effects of an instantaneous release, but the downside is that the aura’s intended effect builds slowly as it’s gradually released.
Theosis Versus Iconoclasm
It’s almost universally observed that auras of beings only using or imbued with Theosis are generally positive auras, with muted effects on the world around them (the exceptions are auras of beings who are so corrupt and malevolent that their aura produces Congealed Malice). Ossian’s aura for example accelerates the healing of people around him, and they require less rest to get back to full fitness and form. He can somewhat direct and focus this as well for a greater effect, such as on himself or on one of his patients, at the expense of the aura being much weaker everywhere else. If a being calls upon Iconoclasm however, the aura undergoes a dark transfiguration and becomes malevolent. It’s usually the case that its effect upon the surrounding world is the opposite of what it would do when only powered by Theosis. It may also be ironic in comparison as well, or be an exaggerated form of the standard Theosis aura that becomes harmful. Some Rodinians are able to make people around them feel more confident for example, but an Iconoclastic version of this aura may make them so confident that they become arrogant, delusional and hostile to others. The Interaction of Auras
Auras can generally affect anything and anyone, even other beings that produce auras. There are a few exceptions:- If a being possesses a soul with much greater dyne content, then their aura will also be much denser in dyne. This can act to “smother” the aura of a weaker soul, negating its effects. Their aura basically displaces the aura of the weaker soul, blowing it away.
- The aura of a being that only has Theosis within it cannot affect a being that is calling upon Iconoclasm.
- Iconoclastic auras always dominate over Theosis auras.
- Primacy affects auras. The auras of dihypostatic souls have no effect on trihypostatic beings.
