Queen Kalfis

Queen Kalfis was the last archmage of The Kingdom of Magnus. As the most powerful Archmage in the cities history her strategies and power saved the lives of most of her citizens while preserving the cities knowledge.

Born in 2502 Kalfis was the only daughter of a cobbler couple, Serena and Martin.

At the age of five she became the youngest person to ever be accepted for magical training. Kalfis quickly proved her abilities and was allowed to study directly under the archmage. She became the youngest person to ever be recognized as a full mage at the age of twelve in 2514.

Upon graduation as was custom she chose a school of magic to focus on. Her choice raised a few eyebrows: necromancy. While an uncommon choice, it was not unheard of and was actually encouraged.

Kalfis continued to work with Archmage Stephan helping him decipher rune magic. Her work on this project lead her to several discoveries with her own magic that pushed the boundaries of what others thought possible.

In the year 2525 the giants finally laid siege to the city. In the first battle Archmage Stephan died. While Stephan had several apprentices, Kalfis was unanimously chosen to be his successor. At the age of 24 this made her the youngest and last Archmage of Magnus.

She once again surprised people by not taking the fight to the giants as was expected. Instead she completely changed the power structure of the city. Eliminating the council, Kalfis streamlined the bureaucracy by making everything report to her. This gave her a more direct and immediate control of the city. Because of this the people stopped calling her Archmage and instead named her queen.

Queen Kalfis was able to hold off the giants for 20 years.

Between her brilliance with magic and her tactical acumen many thought that the city would hold out indefinitely. The queen, however, knew that it was only a matter of time before the giants won. In preparation for this she made several contingency plans.

Most of these plans involved the evacuation of the citizens and the accumulated knowledge. One plan however was made to safeguard the The Abomination.

In the year 2545 the City of Magnus was destroyed.

Two days before that the population was evacuated through teleportation circles around the world. Each group had copies of most of the magical knowledge that the city had produced. Volunteers stayed behind to slow the giants as much as possible while Queen Kalfis and her elite guard went below ground to protect the abomination.

No record exists on what happened to the queen and her forces.
