Introduction

The Balkan Monarchy represents a fervent resistance faction that has risen against the Terran Defense Authority [TDA]. Established in 2048 A.D. in response to the TDA's aggressive secularization and suppression of cultural identities, the Balkan Monarchy has quickly garnered support among the Balkan states, with the notable exception of Greece. Led by the devout Queen Zsófia, the faction consists primarily of former TDA Armed Forces personnel who remain loyal to their religious and cultural heritage.

Formation

The Balkan Monarchy was founded in 2048 A.D. by religious and cultural leaders within the Balkans dissatisfied with the TDA's secular and anti-cultural policies. Queen Zsófia, a charismatic and devout leader, has become the symbolic and operational head of the new monarchy.

Objectives

The primary objective of the Balkan Monarchy is to overthrow the TDA's control in the region and establish a government based on the principles of religious freedom, monarchy, and cultural sovereignty.

Operational Focus and Capabilities

• Religious Zeal: The faction's forces are driven by deep religious conviction, viewing their struggle as a holy crusade against the TDA's atheistic regime. This zeal bolsters their morale and resilience in the face of adversity.
 
• Former TDA Equipment: The Balkan Monarchy's military forces are largely composed of former TDA personnel. However, they face challenges due to a lack of sufficient equipment compared to other revolutionary factions.
 
• Guerrilla Warfare and Scorched Earth Tactics: To counter the TDA’s efforts to regain control, the Balkan Monarchy relies heavily on guerrilla warfare and scorched earth tactics. These strategies disrupt TDA operations and prevent the re-establishment of their authority in the region.
 
• Territorial Control: The Monarchy has succeeded in consolidating control over most of the Balkan states, with Greece being a significant exception. The ongoing conflict with the TDA involves continuous efforts to defend and expand their territory.

• The Reckoning Was Divine – The Kry-Zok invasion is interpreted as a chastisement sent by God—not because the Kry-Zok are divine, but because God allowed them as a consequence of mankind’s fall from grace. Humanity broke its covenant through hubris and must now repent.

 
• Salvation Through Purity – Only by rejecting corruption—both moral and biological—can one be made whole. The infested, the heretical, and the lawless must be cleansed.
 
• The Monarch is God's Sword – The Balkan Monarch is divinely anointed, both king and protector of the faith. He leads the faithful not only in governance but in holy war (Sveti Rat) against the enemies of salvation.
 
• The Flesh is Weak, the Will is Holy – Asceticism, martial training, and service to the state are religious virtues. Pain and hardship are tests of faith and resolve.

• The Book of Ash and Judgment – A state-authored supplement to Orthodox texts. It includes survivor testimonies, prophetic visions, and edicts from the Monarch and High Justiciar.

 
• Liturgy of the Wounded Earth – Special services performed on battlefields and ruins, where priests call upon divine light to reclaim corrupted ground.

• Patriarch of Transfiguration – Supreme spiritual leader and advisor to the Monarchy. Appointed jointly by the Church and Crown. Often a former general or scholar.
 
• High Justiciars – Priestly-judges who run military-church courts. They determine guilt in cases of heresy, treason, and biological corruption.
 
• Templars of the Reckoning – Holy warrior orders that serve both Church and Crown. They investigate bio-contamination, guard relics, and lead purging operations.
 
• Reckoners – Monastic crusaders and preachers who travel the frontier delivering sermons, relief, and sometimes divine judgment. Known for their black vestments and heavy weaponry.

• Rite of Cleansing Flame – Bio-contaminated subjects are incinerated in holy fire while priests chant repentance psalms.
 
• Vigil of Ruin – Every year, citizens gather for midnight liturgies to remember the fall of mankind and swear loyalty to the Monarch and God.
 
• Blessing of Arms – All state soldiers have their weapons consecrated before deployment. Templar-blessed bullets are believed to burn through Infestation more effectively.

• Iconography – Classic Orthodox icons are reimagined with post-war symbolism: armored angels, burning cities, black suns, and divine warriors bearing gas masks and relics.
 
• Architecture – Cathedrals mix traditional onion domes and gold leaf with bunker-like facades and military-grade fortifications. Sanctuaries double as fallout shelters.
 
• State Doctrine – Children are raised in Neo-Orthodox schools. Loyalty to the Crown, physical endurance, and scripture study are mandatory.

Philosophy and Tone

The Faith of the Reckoning does not view humanity as damned, but tested. The apocalypse was not the end—it was the purification. Those who endure, repent, and serve will be transfigured. Faith, steel, and the fire of holy wrath are the tools of that transformation.
