Vîma Lwgox - Shroomy Hurly-Burly

"Hey, who's there?" one of the funghi guards calls into the darkness, shining a light on the silent statues resembling shroomy gods, standing motionless in the park. He hears another rustling, and suddenly one of the statues tips onto another, which then falls onto the next, until they've all fallen over. "By all the mushroom caps that are sacred to me!" the guard groans, and while he's still tearing his hair out, a few masked goblins hop across the meadow, somersaulting and cartwheeling, and disappear into the dark alleys. Then the guard screams at the top of his lungs so everyone in the city can hear:

"WE WERE ATTACKED!"
- Little prank among mushroom keepers? -

Magic mushrooms are one of the most important exports of the Meadow goblins of Âdocôris. Since the invention of the mushroom harvesting machine, the goblins have been able to continually increase their harvest. Today, the goblins harvest 13 to 15 tons of mushrooms annually. Of course, these include more than just magic mushrooms. Goblins simply love them, and what could be more natural than celebrating the informal Vîma Lwgox, or Shroomy Hurly-Burly, once a year?

Preparations

Most of the festivities take place during the summer months, when, depending on the region, the main harvests for a particular mushroom species are completed. Each city has developed its own traditions and mascots over the centuries. However, they all have one thing in common: No thanks are given to the gods, as the mushroom keepers believe that the bounty of the mushroom harvest comes from a special underground collection of magical mycelium belonging to the Aqi Talúsix . Therefore, these festivals are more riotous and exuberant than the annual festivals.

The local board of the Mushroom Keepers' Association is responsible for organizing the Vîma Lwgox. They begin their preparations when the Brictaelgian autumn begins and mushroom harvests dwindle. Most towns come up with annual, sometimes humorous, themes to attract visitors. Depending on the theme, the towns are decorated with all kinds of mushroom decorations, large and small. Many locals wear mushroom-themed costumes or caps to match.

Different characteristics

While in smaller towns the Hurly-Burly focus on easily organized and inexpensive highlights such as various mushroom or costume competitions, the election of the local mushroom queen or princess, and small fairground attractions with a few curiosities, the events in larger cities are becoming increasingly expansive.

The most famous major events take place in the capital Stone Crown, Capvalley, Silvermint, and Greenalderground. What they all have in common is the food, which naturally revolves around real and fake mushrooms, and the exuberant atmosphere. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a scoundrel, because one thing is absolutely taboo: the misuse of magic mushrooms. But there are said to be some towns that have affectionate rivalries, and where the mushroom keepers play pranks on each other.

"Swirl the mushrooms and toss them onto the tray. Then we'll see what the future holds for them," the juggler hands Athril the cup. At first hesitantly, then more vigorously, he shakes it and pours the shriveled mushroom fragments onto the rune-engraved wood.

"Hmm, interesting!" murmurs the old woman. "Son, you're facing a great test, one you won't have to face alone, but..." She dismisses the oracle and shakes her head.

"What?"

"What the oracle predicts can't be true. It's simply impossible."

"But what?" Athril asks again more firmly.

Leave my tent immediately and never come back!"

Stonecrown

The annual Shroomy Hurly-Burly is always celebrated here on Adocorian Mushroom Day. A month beforehand, a huge tent city is set up outside the town to welcome the many visitors. The roofs of the tents resemble the different mushroom caps and reflect their colorful diversity. Here, the Vîma Lwgox is celebrated with a nostalgic spirit and harks back to the good old days, which is also evident in the costumes of the participants. There are cap games, a mushroom fair and swap meet, stuffed giant mushrooms on skewers, and various folk dances. At the end of the Mushroom Festival, there is a grand parade with all the participants, and in which the magnificent history of the development of the Adocorian mushroom industry is told through various images.

Capvalley

Things get mystical and somewhat mysterious in Capvalley. Many highlights only take place at nightfall, when the mushroom decorations appear even more wondrous in the dim light of the garlands. Small theater groups tell mushroom myths, legends, and fairy tales. There are jugglers who dress up as spooky mushrooms to scare the little goblins. You can have a mushroom oracle and have your fortune predicted. The mushroom picnic in the town park, where people wear spooky or very dark costumes, is especially popular.

Silvermint

Under the motto "Silvermint Rocks Under the Mushroom Hat!", young visitors in particular are drawn to the town every year. For about 150 years, the largest open-air music festival has been held here, featuring many well-known Brictaelgian bands. The most popular music genres are mushroom folk, cap metal, lamella pop, and toadgrunch, providing a diverse range of music. Bands like the Crazy Shroomy Heads, Rolling Toads, Death Caps, Sweet Lamells, and the Swinging Hats are the most well-known groups dedicated to mushroom-themed goblin music.

Greenalderground

At the Mushroom Classics in Greenalderground, the mushroom takes center stage as an art object. There are various workshops where you can try your hand at painting, pottery, forging, and carving, creating small or large mushroom-themed objects for your home and garden. In the evenings, readings and lectures take place in the town's cafes, where you can learn the latest stories about mushrooms or listen to the most beautiful mushroom poems.

Oh gosh, I love the title. I just burst out into laughter. The rest of the article was just lovely, this festival sounds like a lot of fun :) Great that you linked to corresponding articles, now I can learn more about the mushroom related stuff of your world.

Oh, I'm glad you like the title. I thought about it for a long time because words often sound nicer in German than in English, and I really had to search to find something suitable. And it's fun to link articles that belong together. Unfortunately, I don't have that many yet.

The Shroomy Hurly Burly is a title that will stick in my head for a while! This was such a fun article to read. My favorite part was the music festival and all the bands :) I think it would be great if there was an official Hurly Burly song, sung at the end or beginning of the celebrations :) Really wonderful <3

I'm glad you enjoyed reading it. The title and all the other names gave me a bit of a headache, and it's great to remember it. And thanks for the wonderful idea about the song. I'll definitely think about it, because it would fit the goblins so well.
