Arrival of the Gnomes

Population Migration / Travel

1943AoC

The gnomes were a peculiar race when they first arrived in E'ath. While they shared many traits with the fey they also seemed to have a distaste for staying in the same place, instead preferring to travel the world. As such they soon found the area designated by the agreement with the trees too restrictive.

When the gnomes arrived in E'ath the intelligent trees of the Living Forest regarded them as some of the better-mannered fey. They were not quite as whimsical as the other fey even if they were just as curious.   They were however not happy with the arrangement between the fey and the trees and would often wander outside the jurisdiction of the Seelie court. This resulted in many infractions that the court had to make good for. Eventually, the gnomes were given an ultimatum: Either stay within the court-controlled area or relinquish their connection to their home world. They chose the latter and absolved themselves of the connection. This had many consequences, not least to themselves, but perhaps chief among them is that the gnomes now had no way of getting life energy without generating it themselves. This life energy is only producible by experiencing new things, and as such the gnomes were no longer immortal like the rest of the fey, but instead forced to keep experiencing new things with the constant thread of boredom being their end.   Still, they created a city, Zimzankatan, on the outskirts of the forest, close enough to the Flowing Peak that the trees did not contest the area.
