Discovery of the Mountains Heart

Discovery, Exploration

2013AoC

Although not as large as the mountains core, when this jewel was found it was evaluated to be just as valuable. It was greatly appreciated for its ability to gather and strengthen whatever magic was put through it.

Nondric Brownbreaker, one of the poorest and most hardworking dwarves found this gem in a mine that reached deep beneath the mountain. Here he was exiled to dig as the luck of his family had been so poor that they had not found much of worth in decades. As such his family was forced to dig ever deeper and ever farther away from the other dwarves as no one wanted to be smitten by his family's luck. This only made his problem worse as the depth made it harder to mine and more costly to transport anything he found.   Here deep under the mountain he found a gem coloured like the rainbow. This gem he called the reward for years of his unluck. However so great was its value that other greedier dwarves ended up taking it from Nondric and presenting it to the king of Du'merh as if though they had found it themselves. Although the king later learned the truth of this and had the cheaters rightfully punished, for the unlucky Nondric this was too late as he starved to death a few days before the truth was uncovered.   After this the gem was put on display in the throne room as a memorial to those that work hard without it being appreciated. For this reason it was firmly denied when several mages a few years later requested the gem for a magical experiment to destroy the great evil, something that had not yet had any influence on Du'merh.
