Discovery of the Deep Sea

Discovery, Exploration

1812AoC

After more than 200 years of digging the dwarves of Du'gar finally reached a lower point where they could not continue. As they dug ever deeper the floor gave out to a drop of a few hundred meters into a huge flooded cavern.   The first dwarves to discover this cavern fell into the sea and were never heard from again and since then many more dwarves have disappeared trying to explore the cavern and the water it hosts.

The water below Du'gar, now named the "Deep Sea", was first found by a dwarf whose name is now forgotten. As he dug ever deeper and deeper the ground on which he was standing gave way and he fell several hundred meters into the water below. Several large aquatic creatures have been observed in the waters so it is likely that he was killed by them rather than drown in the darkness.   Since its discovery several ladders and stairs have been constructed that goes all the way down to the water. From here many have tried to swim to the bottom and reach the light at the bottom of the mountain that still seem to be out of reach. No one has yet reached the bottom and lived to tell the tale nor has anyone created a rope long enough to measure the depth. Suffice to say many have tried and failed, ending with either their death or acceptance that the light will forever be out of their reach.
