Baranek
Baranek is one of the four territories of Critinal, and happens to attract many adventurers due to its convenient location. Because of this, it is the birthing place of many famous adventuring parties. Originally a Human settlement, it has recently become home to an assortment of races. The inhabitants find comfort in the exciting parts of life, and value the sense of purpose or calling in life. Baranek is one of the four counties of Critinal, and arguably one of the most popular. The city is mostly devoid of enemies except for a fairly large cartel under the city, the Broken Rib, who tend to draw in a poor name for Baranek. As for allies, obviously they are supported by Critinal and they have been in good favor with Ginnungagap and Redveil.
Government
A local Count manages the town while the king resides in Critinal Keep. When the count dies, and no kin are available, an existing Count is elected and placed into power.
Defences
The local guard have a relatively loose grip on the streets. Some attribute the appearance of the Broken Rib to the lax nature of the city's policing force. Geographically, Baranek is not the most defensible settlement in Dwaistar. Although there are the Shadow Mountains to the North, the remainder of directions are dangerously open to invasion. Unremarkable cobble walls do surround the city, so it is not entirely unguarded.
History
In 780 of the Era of Resolution, Baranek was established as one of the four counties of Critinal.
Points of interest
Butterball's Tavern - A popular tavern and inn that is run by a retired Dragonborn adventurer, Naphaliüm. Prices are fair, and drinks strong. The center of the tavern has a large cauldron in which a perpetual stew is made. A welcome place for any adventurer looking to rest easy, or maybe even hide away...
Town Hall - Count Vladimir Aldacur resides here most of the working day. He will manage any issue you bring to him with as much haste as he can muster. While the building is not necessarily fortified, there are guards posted in many areas around it.
Tourism
Tourism is rather high, as there is an abundance of taverns and inns to spend a night in. There are also often festivals and hunts which gather attention at certain times of the year.
Architecture
The architecture is nothing to gawk at, but it is functional. Houses of cobble and log can be found all throughout, taking inspiration from different cultures around the world. Each building is more or less the same in design, save for the manors of the nobility.
