Kindred Comic Books
Trouble is brewing in the melting pot metropolis of Tao.
Sinister plots stir in the shadows of a cataclysmic aftermath that threatens the safety and stability of all of Erimata's citizens, mortals and dragons alike. The only thing standing in the way is a broken and forgotten sorcerer who refuses to step aside. A masked figure claiming to represent unity, yet acting alone. A man they call Kindred.
Kindred is a superhero-inspired comic series infused with the spirit of Dungeons and Dragons. It’s an introduction to the World of Dromaria, a TTRPG campaign setting. This series brings the feeling of a tabletop character brought to life through fantasy, magic, action, and political intrigue, all captured in the detailed and expressive style of artist Kati Drinkwine.
If you’re a fan of comics like Dr. Strange or Constantine and love the feel of old-school Advanced Dungeons and Dragons comics, you’ll feel right at home here.
Long ago, during a period of eternal darkness, the dragons of Dromaria opened their borders, allowing the people of the world shelter. Now, thousands of years later, the Dragon's Peace has led to Tao, the largest city in the world. A place where dragons and every kind of people collide. This city is the setting of the Kindred comic book series. In the dragon-ruled lands of Erimata, a new hero rises. One shaped by failure, tied to a long legacy of power, now cast aside. Kindred tells a tale of violence, belief, and what it takes to hold the line between justice and judgment. The first series, Lessons, begins with the prologue. We meet the Governess Annabelle, as she is attacked and saved by a masked vigilante speaking in riddles. When he removes the mask, we see Riieyu, an elvenari man who once stood at the edge of greatness. A man who must now carve a different path. Shadows Over Tao sets the stage. What does it mean to become a hero in Dromaria? Who is Kindred?
Kindred is the masked identity of Riieyu Divmur'ss. Once apprentice to the last Sovereign Sage, Riieyu was expected to take up the title himself. When he wasn't chosen by the Thundering Flight, he chose exile. Riieyu disappeared from the world stage, choosing to serve the Covenant religions quietly, though his power and history make that hard to maintain.
Raised by the gold dragon Elovesor, companion to Harvie Ambrosius, Riieyu grew up surrounded by the strongest names in Dromaria. His powers manifested young, and Riieyu developed into a shadow sorcerer. In his alternate persona Kindred, Riieyu does not hold back. His style is brutal, disintegrating enemies to leave no trace. He calls hounds made of shadow to hunt for him, and kills without hesitation when needed.
Kindred is the mask while Riieyu is the man behind it. Most people don’t know he’s in the city at all and he works to keep it that way. However, there are still those in Tao who seek him out, and would do him harm. Riieyu is trying to become more; one lesson at a time.
What is their role in Dromaria?
Kindred is a violent protector. He fights crime with overwhelming force by taking on tasks others won’t. He hunts threats that move in the cracks of society. Tao is massive, corrupt, and dangerous, and Kindred is trying to keep it from falling apart. There are worse things coming than crime and backroom deals. Kindred knows what is out there, and when they arrive, he’ll already be there. Kindred is someone who was denied a future and decided that wouldn’t stop him.
What comes next?
The first Kindred series is called Lessons, made up of six issues. Issue #1 is done and will be launching on Kickstarter as of September 1st, 2025. This is just the beginning. The world is broken. Kindred stands at the edge of that break, fighting to hold it together. The cast will grow. The threats will rise. Kindred will face the Upiryrial villain Amarantha Cull, uncover secrets in the Old District, and confront what it really means to stand for others in a world that rewards cruelty.
The comic is illustrated and colored by Kati Drinkwine, who has brought the city of Tao and its inhabitants to life. Her art has infused this series with a soul far beyond its humble beginnings. From concept to the final page, Kati’s work has brought Dromaria into an entirely different medium.
If you would like to support future issues of Kindred, you can buy the high quality PDF of the prologue for $5 on our Ko-Fi. Physical versions will be available starting on September 1st, 2025 on Kickstarter. After the Kickstarter, you will be able to purchase additional copies at stonehomegames.com.
