Clash of the Divine

In the far past, before dragons existed, the only people to wander the planet were the gods themselves. As one might expect, fights and arguments among them were... not uncommon. Beings with such great power and (near) immortality could unleash truly awful things upon one another, and let centuries pass before they made up and moved on. On a divine timescale, or a planetary timescale, most of these fights were nothing. But one, one was especially notable, both in the severity of the fight, and in its effects.   Taking place so far in the past, the only ones who remember it even taking place are the gods, and they prefer not to speak of it. The conflict has no real name, and if it had one when it was taking place, its participants seem content to let it fade away.

The Conflict

Deployment

Many deities were drawn into the conflict, fighting with and against their fellow gods.

Battlefield

Fought on the Wastes of Oaths, long before they held that name, gods clashes against other gods on the sprawling savannah, reducing it and its inhabiting life to ashes and magical rubble. It took many thousands of years for the scars to fade away, and some claim they still linger. At the time of the battle, the sheer magical abilities of the gods who were fighting modified the battlefield from day to day, moment to moment.

Aftermath

Although the timeframe is unknown, the site of the war led to an unexpected bright side: the birth of dragonkind. The lingering magic, spilled from the gods that fought there, combined with the lingering impressions of the gods themselves, forming an all new intelligent species to roam the planet.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The gods, now aware of the repercussions of their fighting, and feeling responsible for the creation of the dragons, ceased their many battles. The Clash of the Divine, their first proper war, was also their last. Although they still clash from time to time, full-out battles like these were a thing of the past.
