Wastes of Oaths
The birthplace of dragonkind, the Wastes of Oaths is a fascinating sort of place. Despite what its name suggests, the Wastes aren't actually much of a wasteland, but rather a thriving savannah. Although none inhabit the Wastes themselves, there are plenty of settlements nearby.
Geography
The Wastes are a vast plain of savannah, with the scars of divine war long buried by time and nature. Some claim traces of it still exist, an oddly shaped rock or furrow in the ground a clear sign of magic, but nothing has ever been proven. In truth, nothing about it really stands out from the rest of the savannah, except for the faint lingering traces of magic. The way some dragons step onto the ground and feel, distinctly, that they've come home.
History
Once upon a time, the Wastes were the site of a great clash between gods, as they fought for reasons long lost and forgotten. Magic hung thick in the air, seeped in the ground where divine blood flowed; a graveyard for the undying. And from this magic formed something new: the first dragons. Made from the impressions of the gods and the essence of animals as they lived on the planet, dragonkind developed unnaturally fast, but with undeniable evolutionary links to the animals that call Drakunne their home.
These days, the Wastes are no longer the home to anyone, and it has largely fallen out of knowledge. Most dragons care more about the lands where they, specifically, were born, rather than were their kind might have come into existence. Many local groups however still have religious and spiritual links to the area, and consider it the most holy of areas: a territory where one can still feel the lingering magic of the deities that created them.
Tourism
Few would travel from far, as the knowledge in the Wastes as the point of origin for dragonkind has fallen out of both knowledge and interest. Only local groups, who still hold the knowledge among them, travel to the Wastes, though their exact reasons vary. Some go there only once, to confirm to themselves the feeling of homecoming. Other come more often, considering it the place where their prayers are most likely to be heard.
Regardless of their reason to come, none ever stay in the Wastes. Some say that doing so will result in the gods striking them down for desecrating holy lands. Other say that doing so will lead to the gods taking them into their open arms, bringing them away from the mortal plane and back to where they came from. And yet others will claim that those who stay the night will feel such a strong connection to their home that they can never leave again, no matter what they had left behind outside of the Wastes.
