Aedar

Aedar stands for Aether Event Detection and Ranging. It was Dakath Ghaan, who at that time was a meteorologist, began to wonder if a technology similar to the Radar they used to predict weather could help provide a warning for Aether Storms and Monster Incursions.

He used the data provided in On Monsters: Their Origin and Nature as a basis for his own research. Expanding upon those old findings, and some other more recent studies conducted, he was able to make the first functional prototype in 665 e7. The first fully operational Aedar station was constructed in the city of Kazusho two years later. Once the Kingdom of Gryvane announced this new capability publicly other nations clamored for their own stations.

The range that an Aedar system can detect potential Aether Events is largely determined by how much electrical power it can be supplied with. A station that can cover a large enough area to be useful for a small village requires enough power that it is often more than such a village can afford on its own. Not only is the power requirement often prohibitive, the sensitive equipment requires precision manufacturing standards and well trained operators to function correctly.

Aedar is still in the process of proliferating to the world at large. The largest and most influential nations have many stations and a solid understanding of the technology. Smaller nations count themselves lucky to have one proper station and many can only dream of it for now. While the technology has not yet reached a point of being 100% accurate in its predictions, it is correct often enough to have saved an incalculable number of lives in the handful of decades it has been available.
