Chapter 1
Ptah calls forth across the Sea of Chaos and brings forth Ra and Thoth, who conquer Chaos and allow Order to rise.
In the beginning, there was a sea, which was called the Sea of Chaos,
2 And it came to pass that Ptah moved across the Sea and said, Arise and come forth, O ye sons of order.
3 It came to pass that after He spoke these things that there arose out of the Sea a great serpent, whose color was of blood, and whose visage was of night.
4 Ptah looked upon the serpent and said, Wherefore goest thou, Apothis, thou son of chaos? Who callest to thee that thou shouldst rise from the Sea?
5 And Apothis said unto Him, It is thou which callest to me, when thou callest to the sons of order. For I and they are of such nature as to be bound up in the fates of each other.
6 Ptah said unto the serpent, thou hast spoken only partly. For thou art correct in the which thou sayest that thee and the sons of order are bound up together,
7 Nevertheless thou knowest that the sons of order cometh; therefore thou hast determined in thyself to destroy them at the moment of their coming forth;
8 Now I declare unto you, that in the hour they cometh they shall put thee to shame and cause thee to flee.
9 Even as ye desired to turn the balance, ye shall surely be cursed; ye shall not know the taste of success all the days of thy life, but only of misery and failure.
10 It came to pass, in that moment, a light did appear, rising out of the Sea;
11 And within that light there stood two persons, the one looking like one of power and the other as one of knowledge.
12 In that moment, a great spirit came upon the one and all understanding was his.
13 And it came to pass that the two reached out their hands toward the serpent and spoke as one saying,
14 In the name of order, thou shalt depart from hence Apothis. And the serpent was sore afraid and went on his belly away from that place.
15 Then behind the two, there arose a great obelisk, which gave light to the whole Sea, and the feet of them that arose from the Sea alighted on the land surrounding the obelisk,
16 And Ptah moved to them, calling out to them, and named them thus:
17 The one of power he called Ra, which is to say Order, and the one of knowledge, Thoth, which is to say Intelligence.
18 And Ptah said to them, Ye are the Sons of Order and ye are the ones through whom all life shall find creation.
Chapter 2
Ra creates the other gods through parthenogenesis. Together, and with Ptah's help, they create the universe. Ra is made King of the Gods.
Then said Ra to Thoth, let us create for us a legion of others which are called gods whereby we may have help unto the establishing of life.
2 Then Ra thought, and thus appeared six others which are called gods,
3 And their names were Geb, Nut, Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys.
4 Thus were all the gods together able to command the elements that they should mingle and mix until they should create a world, whereunto all the elements have their place.
5 And Thoth said, now here is the world that we shall command, but there is no life in this world. Who among us shall have the power to give life unto this world.
6 And all turned unto Ptah, who said, It is well with thee that ye look to me. For even as I have given life unto you, so shall I bring life unto the world that thou hast created.
7 And Ptah said, let there be all manner of plants in the world; and there were all manner of plants upon the face of the world.
8 Again, Ptah said, let there be beasts of the field, fish of the sea, fowl of the air, cattle, and every creeping thing. And it was so upon the face of the world.
9 But Ptah said, It is not in me to create life that is ordered and intelligent.
10 Then Ra and Thoth stepped forth, and Ra spake and said, Let there be humans and elves, dwarves and gnomes and halflings.
11 Then Thoth spake and said, Let these have intelligence, that they may have knowledge of good and evil, law and chaos, that they might even be as we are.
12 And Ptah saw the beings that Ra and Thoth created and said, it is well with thee, Ra and Thoth, and because thou hast mastered life and intelligence, I shall set thou above the rest of these the gods. And thou shalt rule over them.
13 Then Thoth said, O Lord, let Him my brother be ruler over these the gods; for I seek neither power, but only knowledge. Then Ptah said, So shall it be.
