Juglanth

From the Draconic for "dread," this is the most feared prison in all of Draconia. The Draconic Confederacy does not have the power to execute those who are convicted by its Court. So, it operates a couple of prisons. One is both short-term and minimum security. Juglanth is different; it is for long-term sentences and is maximum security. The prison is secured by guards who are trained by the Guardians of Light as well as several Dread Wraiths. These wraiths have such a powerful magical aura of fear that subdues all the prisoners. The guards are protected from the effect of the aura by magic items given to them by the Confederacy. So terrible is the prison that even its name, Juglanth, means "horror" in Draconic. The prison also sits on an island far from any civilian settlements. Prisoners are also tagged with a bracelet that can be triggered in the event of an escape to paralyze the prisoner. It also allows for easy identification of the prisoner.

Purpose / Function

This prison houses the worst prisoners convicted of the most terrible war crimes or crimes against morality.

Architecture

The building itself is actually quite boring. It is just a rectangular block cut into the rocks of one of the most inhospitable islands in Draconia. Cells are both in the building and deep below in the caverns beneath the prison. The caverns hold the evilest of prisoners. All cells are enchanted so that magic will not work inside them. Not that this matters; the dread wraiths' aura of fear suck all magical energy out of the prisoners.

Defenses

The prison has the following defense features: 1. Guards trained by the Guardians of Light, 2. Dread Wraiths exuding fear and hoplessness (can also attack when commanded), 3. Island Prison 4. Alarm bell

Tourism

Not a lot of people are inclined to visit, not even those with relatives inside.
