Imhotep

Imhotep is the first ascended mortal in the Pharaonic pantheon. In mortality, Imhotep was a scholar of science and the father of medicine. While he was a magician and an expert in healing magic, he believed that the ability to heal shouldn't be confined to people with magic. Using his knowledge of the science and his revolutionary experimentation technique called the scientific process, Imhotep developed a branch of science which he called medicine. In his own practice as a healer, he used a combination of magic and science to cure the afflictions of hundreds of patients. Quite accidently, Imhotep began drawing upon so much arcane power that he became immortal and divine. His ascent to divinity was completed when Ra assigned him a portfolio and accepted him into the Pharaonic Pantheon. He appears as a normal human dressed in a white robe under a lab coat and carrying a staff.

Tenets of Faith

Imhotep's key doctrine is that knowledge, science, and magic should be used to help people. While Thoth teaches the collection of knowledge for knowledge's sake, Imhotep insists that knowledge is only useful if it is used, and it must be used for the good of all. Though Imhotep is not a god of magic, his doctrine applies to magic as much as to science and medicine. The appropriate use of magic is to help others, not harm them.

While not explicitly pacifistic, Imhotep places much more emphasis on healing than on warfare, in stark contrast to other Pharaonic deities.

Clergy and Temples

Imhotep's clerics are generally peaceful healers who strive for the betterment of all peoples. Many dabble in the sciences, particularly medicine, and they often serve as doctors in hospitals associated with Imhotep's temples. These clerics are vastly popular among the common people, who rely on them for all varieties of healing. They wear white robes common to most Pharaonic clergy, though these robes are more reminiscent of lab coats. Imhotep's priests that are also doctors of medicine actually do wear lab coats as part of their vestments.

Imhotep's temples double as hospitals and centers of scientific learning. The College of Science and the College of Medicine at the University of Thoth are dedicated to Imhotep.
