Caldiin (Cal-Deen)
The largest of Seretonia's sovereign-cities, Caldiin is constructed within the bounds of a massive crater, formed long before the arrival of humanoid races by a massive mineral-laden meteor. The meteor itself has long-since weathered away, leaving behind a naturally defensible crater rich with precious metals. Large, densely packed homes and businesses peek over the jagged stone walls, crammed impossibly close together to maximize what little flat land is available for building on. Buildings are built on top of one another with crude scaffolding and flooring to allow multiple levels of life and commerce. In a continent full of vast, expansive landscapes, Caldiin is a claustrophobic cityscape ruled by the gold coin above all else.
Demographics
Naturally, Caldiin has attracted a large population of dwarven and halfling miners, owing to their short stature and hardy bodies. Though unlike most of Serotonia, much of their rich culture has been washed away and pushed aside in favor of conformity in the mines.
A significant number of human workers from the nearby kingdom of Linrea also populate the city, immigrating in hopes of striking rich and to get away from the agriculturally dominant Blashpir Expanse.

Government
Unlike a majority of settlements on Serotonia, Caldiin possesses no formal government. What exists is an elder-like council of the early settlers of Caldiin, able to sway the future of the settlement through group voting hosted at the peak of every month. Many of these elders look to their own needs above the needs of the public, unaware of the drastic ripple effects their self-absorption cause on thousands of lives.
Districts
As Caldiin possesses only one official entry point, the Eastern side of the crater is where one would find the most activity. The merchant caravans that Caldiin rely on to import and export goods rarely go past the first 2-3 blocks of the city, and thus much of the immediate space is dedicated to loading/unloading cargo and providing lodgings. There is also a large stone building to the left of the entrance that makes up what little government is present. Travelers can restock from various general stores-- but to find more specialized goods, one must head deeper into the heart of the city.
The city center connects directly to the main entrance through an expansive cobblestone road. Flanking this main road are a majority of the inns and restaurants the city has on offer, and several branching roads connect to hundreds of shops and businesses. Past these businesses lies the residential sector, packing in thousands of residents to serve all kinds of positions.
Many of these residents make their living at one of Caldiin's many, many mineshafts. The perimeter of the city is dominated by mine entrances, both active and abandoned. Materials are then hauled Eastward to the main entrance where they are to be sold and shipped off across the continent.
