Sea of Light
The Sea of Light is a radiant, life-brimming region found in the uppermost layers of the Sea of Worlds within the Elemental Plane of Water. Bathed in a magical luminescence that filters through the water like eternal dawn, this realm pulses with color, motion, and the vibrant rhythm of unceasing life. It is the closest the Elemental Plane of Water comes to resembling a tropical paradise, though one sculpted by elemental forces rather than natural evolution.
The Sea of Light is often sought as a place of healing, meditation, and enlightenment. Many planar travelers, pilgrims, and elemental sages believe the luminous waters enhance clarity of thought, mend emotional wounds, and even amplify divinations and dreams. It is said that those who drift in silence here can hear the “songs of the sea”—echoes of ancient truths and forgotten futures whispered by the water itself.
Some marid legends claim that the Sea of Light touches the Positive Energy Plane in unseen ways, explaining its unusual warmth and vitality. Others believe it is the first ocean ever to form—the elemental memory of all water, ever flowing, now drifting in peace high above the dangers of the deeper reaches.
The Sea of Light is the Elemental Plane of Water at its most beautiful and benevolent—a place of serenity, thriving life, and unending luminescence. It is a sanctuary of flowing grace and radiant calm, where all things swim, shimmer, and shine in a harmonious rhythm. To journey through the Sea of Light is to be bathed not only in light, but in life itself.
Climate
In the Sea of Light, the waters are warm, clear, and shimmering, suffused with a soft, golden glow that seems to emanate from every direction—perhaps from radiant currents, bioluminescent plankton, or the essence of the Plane itself. The effect is surreal, casting no shadows, as though the sea itself is made of sunlight and sapphire.
Towering coral forests and crystal reefs stretch for miles, forming labyrinthine ecosystems teeming with activity. Great drifting kelp canopies ripple in the current, while open expanses of water host schools of fish-like elementals and glittering aquatic creatures in a constant dance of motion. The air pockets and magical bubbles common in this region allow for temporary rest and contact between planar travelers, making it one of the most hospitable parts of the plane.
Fauna & Flora
The Sea of Light supports a dazzling variety of life, both elemental and organic. Marid courts, naiads, sea elves, and sentient water elementals often make their homes here, in coral palaces or drifting enclaves that reflect the light in ever-changing patterns. Peaceful aquatic species from the Material Plane—transplanted long ago or caught in interplanar currents—have flourished here, forming complex communities.
Creatures of light and water—such as radiant manta-like elementals, crystal jellyfish, and songfish whose calls resonate through the waves—are common in these waters. Even traditionally dangerous beings, such as sharks of pure wave-energy or predatory coral beasts, tend to coexist in balance due to the region’s abundant resources and self-regulating flow of elemental magic.
Some say the Sea of Light is blessed by Istishia, the elemental power of water, or protected by ancient currents of benevolence that dissuade corruption and cruelty. Others suggest that the glowing essence of the region is a manifestation of conscious vitality—a living memory of the Plane's most harmonious state.
