Prince of Frost
(a.k.a. Winter Prince; He Who Keeps the Rose Frozen)
The Prince of Frost is a tragic and fearsome archfey of the Feywild, ruling over a realm of eternal winter and sorrow. Once a noble and radiant figure of the Seelie Court, he is now a cold-hearted being of ice and loss, consumed by bitterness and regret. Known also as the Winter Prince or He Who Keeps the Rose Frozen, he is the estranged son of Titania, the majestic Summer Queen, and a fallen reflection of the bright courts he once called home.
In ancient fey legend, the Prince of Frost was once a vibrant and warm-hearted fey knight, beloved by his mother and revered for his valor and beauty. But his heart was broken when the object of his love—a mortal or fey maiden, depending on the telling—rejected him or was lost to tragedy. Grief and obsession consumed him, and his heart turned to ice. He withdrew from the Seelie Court and cast off his former name, remaking himself as a creature of frozen wrath and melancholy.
Now, the Prince of Frost dwells in a palace of black ice and silver snow, known as Winter's Heart, located deep within the bleakest reaches of the Feywild. His domain is a place where the sun never rises and time slows beneath frozen boughs, where lost souls wander snow-covered paths hoping in vain for warmth or mercy. There, the Prince broods over old memories, plotting revenge against those who wronged him—and against love itself, which he views as a cruel illusion.
He appears as a tall, elegant fey lord with skin pale as moonlight, hair like falling snow, and piercing blue eyes that seem to see through one's soul and into one's sorrow. He wears robes or armor sculpted from frost and hoarfrost, his presence chilling the air and numbing the heart.
Though he is cold and cruel, the Prince of Frost is not without a twisted sense of beauty. He cultivates sorrow as an art, surrounding himself with elegies, frozen roses, and broken dreams. He has been known to offer sanctuary to broken-hearted mortals or fey, only to ensnare them in eternal servitude within his realm of despair.
The Prince commands winter spirits, ice elementals, and undead fey, and his power rivals that of the archfey lords of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts alike. His influence touches the Material Plane through whispered pacts with warlocks, sudden, unexplained winters, or cursed lovers whose hearts turn to frost.
To invoke the Prince of Frost is to risk inviting despair incarnate—to draw the eye of a being who sees love as betrayal and warmth as a lie. But for those who feel abandoned or wronged, his cold embrace can be deeply seductive… even as it steals away everything else.
