Jander Sunstar
Jander Sunstar is a tragic figure: a once-noble high elf of Toril whose soul still burns with compassion and guilt, even as his undead body thirsts for blood. Once a devout servant of Lathander, the Morninglord, Jander now walks the world in exile from the light he once worshiped, caught in an unending struggle between his undead nature and his unbreakable conscience.
Though cursed with vampirism, Jander has never succumbed to cruelty or domination. His amber eyes still shine with sorrow rather than predation, and he is known to:
- Feed only on animals or the already dying.
- Travel under heavy cloaks and gloves, protecting others from what he is.
- Avoid strong attachments, lest his secret destroy those he grows to love.
Jander’s vampirism is not a source of power to him—it is a sin to be atoned for, a stain on an otherwise radiant soul.
Centuries of travel have made Jander stoic and wise, but deeply weary. His voice is soft, often tinged with sadness, and his gaze lingers on sunrises he cannot endure. He has fought monsters, mentored mortals, and written tomes on both undeath and virtue—but always, his footsteps return to the edge of the Mists.
Despite his own damnation, Jander cannot stop helping others. He saves children, protects innocents, and slays vampires even as he damns himself by existing. This contradiction defines him.
Jander Sunstar is the embodiment of a soul in torment: a hero turned monster, a vampire who still believes in hope. He is neither saint nor beast, but something rarer—a damned man who still does good, not because he expects forgiveness, but because he cannot bear to do otherwise.

Personal history
As a high elf, Jander was a singer, healer, and adventurer, deeply devoted to the cause of good. Even in undeath, he prays—perhaps out of habit, perhaps out of hope. He has an almost fanatical drive to find redemption, to rid himself of the curse through:
- Forgotten relics, rumored sun-blessed magic, or divine forgiveness.
- Arcane and theological theory gleaned from sages, temples, and doomed prophets.
- Self-sacrifice, even courting death as a release, though the Mists seem never to grant it.
