Isle of the Ravens

Shrouded in shifting mists and ringed by storm-tossed seas, the Isle of the Ravens emerges only when fate allows it. Cloaked in shadow and the endless cacophony of wings, this forested islet is both haven and prison—a place where memories vanish, names dissolve, and time coils in on itself. Here, the ever-watchful eyes of countless ravens peer down from the trees, the ruins, and the storm-dark sky.

The Isle of the Ravens is not always present. It appears like a whisper in the Mists, drawn to those who are forgotten, erased, or misplaced—whether by magic, grief, or cruelty.

  • Those who wash up on its pebbled shores often can’t remember who they are or how they arrived.
  • The island feels like a dream half-remembered: old trees with bark like cracked iron, ruins with names no one recalls, overgrown pathways where shadows flit and whisper secrets.

Ravens circle the isle in a perpetual cyclone, blotting out the sun and heralding the island’s arrival into the Sea of Sorrows.

  • They do not harm travelers—unless provoked—but their stares are heavy with judgment.
  • They nest in the trees, the cliffs, even inside ancient ruins. Some speak riddles, others echo the words of the dead.
  • At times, the ravens swirl into shapes—memories, faces, omens. Sometimes they carry pieces of a person's forgotten past.

At the heart of the Isle stands a towering, half-collapsed cathedral of black stone, its steeples broken and its stained glass shattered. This ruin is the seat of the island’s darklord: The Lady of Ravens.

  • A cloaked, spectral woman of mournful beauty and unknowable age, the Lady remembers every name forgotten, every loved one lost, and every secret buried.
  • She offers refuge to those who’ve been cast aside by fate—but they may never leave. To remember one’s true self is to risk drawing her ire, for her island is built on the sanctity of forgetting.
  • She never speaks, but her presence is undeniable. Some claim she was once a betrayed queen, a goddess of memory, or a spirit whose grief split the world.

Themes and Terrors

  • Loss of Identity: Names fade. Faces change. As time passes, even the players’ memories might be altered or erased by the Lady’s power.
  • Mourning and Obsession: Many who end up on the Isle are people clinging to lost loved ones or traumatic regrets. The domain tempts them to forget… or to never let go.
  • Being Observed: The ravens see everything. Nothing said or done escapes their gaze. Some visitors begin to see through raven eyes in their dreams—or wake to find feathers on their pillow.

Domain Effects

  • Memory Erosion: The longer one remains, the more memories blur or vanish. Long-forgotten truths may return instead, accurate or not.
  • Raven Omens: When a flock gathers in unusual patterns or begins mimicking words, an important revelation—or danger—is near.
  • No Escape by Sea: Ships can approach, but none can leave unless the Lady allows it. Sailors vanish or find themselves endlessly circling the island.

Geography

  • The Cradle-Forest: Ancient trees cradle bones in their roots. Some whisper names in the wind, though no one recalls who they belonged to.
  • The Echoing Tower: A lighthouse-like ruin atop a high cliff. It emits no light, but when entered, visitors hear voices from their forgotten pasts.
  • The Scriptorium of Lost Letters: A ruined hall filled with decaying parchment—letters never sent, confessions never read, apologies never accepted.
  • The Mirror Pool: A still, black lake where reflections show not the present self, but the forgotten versions of who someone once was—or could have been.
