Hyskosa

Hyskosa is a renowned Vistani poet, seer, and storyteller, whose words shape fate and whose presence stirs dread in the hearts of those who know the weight of prophecy. He is one of the rare Vistani with a reputation that spans multiple domains—revered among his people, feared among outsiders, and whispered about in the dark corners of taverns and thrones alike.

Hyskosa is best known as a mist-walker—a Vistana with the uncanny ability to navigate the Mists of the Domains of Dread. His caravan wanders not aimlessly, but with eerie purpose. Hyskosa does not command the Mists, but he listens to them, follows their breath like a hunter stalking whispers, and trusts where they lead.

  • His eyes are pale, milky and unfocused, yet he sees more clearly than most. He is blind in the ordinary sense but possesses visions that stretch across time, glimpsing possible futures and distant tragedies.
  • He dresses in layered silks, patchworks of muted colors, and carries a journal bound in gravebark, into which he writes ominous verses that no ink seems to fade.

Hyskosa is famous—or infamous—for the Prophecies of Hyskosa, cryptic verses that have foreshadowed wars, curses, and the rise and fall of darklords. His poetry is filled with metaphors, riddles, and names not yet known. Many have spent their lives trying to decipher a single stanza. Some have died for misunderstanding one.

"When the raven takes a bride / and stars fall from a sleepless sky, / beware the child who speaks in tongues / for none shall hear her die."

  • His words carry weight, for they often ring true—but never in the way one expects.
  • He speaks with calm certainty, never revealing more than he must, but always leaving listeners haunted.

Hyskosa leads his caravan not as a tyrant, but as a trusted sage. The Vistani under his guidance are devoted, for he has led them safely through the Mists for generations, always avoiding the worst fates—though not always without cost.

  • His caravan is a place of stories and shadows, where songs are sung by starlight and fortunes are drawn with trembling hands.
  • Outsiders who meet Hyskosa on the road may find guidance, riddles, or doom, depending on the nature of their hearts—and how tightly they cling to the illusion of safety.

Hyskosa is neither villain nor hero—he is a creature of fate and inevitability. He does not seek to stop the tragedies he foretells, nor does he delight in them. He accepts what must be. Some say he is cursed to speak the truth, and others believe he writes the future into being by uttering it aloud.

  • He is deeply private, even among his people, and keeps many secrets, including the dark origins of some prophecies and the price of his sight.
  • Though powerful in his own way, he bows to no darklord, and some even believe he cannot be bound to any single domain.

Hyskosa is a blind poet of the Mists, a Vistani seer whose haunting verses chart the rise and ruin of kings, and whose caravan dances on the edge of fate itself.
