Erasmus van Richten
Erasmus van Richten is a gentle and tragic spirit, the ghostly son of famed monster hunter Dr. Rudolph van Richten and his late wife, Ingrid. Once a bright, curious teenager with a quick wit and a love for stories, Erasmus's life was stolen by cruelty and darkness—kidnapped by Vistani, turned into a vampire spawn, and put to rest by his own father's hand when no salvation remained. His death shattered Rudolph’s soul and set the doctor on his relentless crusade against the undead.
Now a ghost, Erasmus is neither vengeful nor wrathful—but sorrowful, gentle, and achingly kind. He lingers not because he was wronged, but because he cannot bear to leave his father alone in a world so full of monsters. He follows Rudolph from a distance, offering unseen aid, whispering warnings, and calming haunted souls when he can.
- He rarely manifests visibly, but when he does, he appears as a pale, sad-eyed teenager in a tattered traveling coat, often barefoot and surrounded by a faint silver glow.
- He cannot speak directly to his father, but often finds subtle ways to communicate: a turned page, a flickering lamp, a soft hum of an old lullaby Ingrid once sang.
Erasmus bonds quickly with Rudolph’s companions—especially children, misfits, or anyone who has lost family. He offers comforting dreams, moments of calm in nightmare places, or a faint presence of warmth in an otherwise cold world.
- He avoids conflict, but may momentarily shield others from harm, turn aside a monster’s blow, or distract a spirit long enough for others to escape.
- His great wish is not vengeance, but peace—for himself, his father, and the people they try to protect.
In a world steeped in fear, Erasmus represents the fragile thread of love that persists beyond death. He is a reminder that not all undead are cursed by hate—some remain for love.
Erasmus van Richten is a tender, watchful spirit—his heart broken, his voice lost, but his love for his father and for the living still shining through the Mists.
