Companions of the Hall
The Companions of the Hall are a legendary fellowship of adventurers renowned across the realms for their heroism, loyalty, and enduring bond. Named for Mithral Hall, the ancestral dwarf stronghold reclaimed by one of their own, the Companions have become symbols of courage and friendship in the face of overwhelming darkness. Their exploits span decades—marked by epic battles, personal sacrifice, and even rebirth.
The story of the Companions of the Hall is more than a saga of adventure—it's a tale of:
- Friendship in the face of darkness
- Redemption through courage and choice
- The balance of power and responsibility
- Endurance against fate and time
In a world filled with gods, monsters, and moral uncertainty, the Companions stand as proof that loyalty, honor, and love can still triumph.
Structure
The core group of the Companions includes:
Drizzt Do'Urden
A noble drow ranger, exiled from the Underdark for rejecting the cruel ways of his people. Drizzt is famed for his twin scimitars, Icingdeath and Twinkle, and his unwavering moral code. With his magical panther companion Guenhwyvar, he has become the face of the Companions and a symbol of redemption and honor.
Bruenor Battlehammer
A fierce and gruff dwarf king, Bruenor is the heart of the group. Brave, stubborn, and deeply loyal, he led the reclamation of Mithral Hall and sought always to preserve dwarven pride and kinship. Despite his rough manner, he cared deeply for his companions and his people.
Wulfgar
A powerful human barbarian from Icewind Dale, Wulfgar was once enslaved by frost giants before being freed and mentored by Bruenor. Armed with the enchanted warhammer Aegis-fang, he is a force of raw strength and passion, struggling throughout his life to reconcile his warrior nature with the desire for peace.
Regis (Rumblebelly)
A charming and clever halfling rogue, Regis is the least martially inclined of the group but often proves to be its conscience and subtle savior. With quick wit and quiet bravery, he provides levity and cunning when brute force is not the answer.
Catti-brie
A courageous and sharp-minded human warrior and spellcaster, Catti-brie is the adopted daughter of Bruenor and beloved of Drizzt. Skilled with bow and blade, and later trained in arcane arts, she balances compassion with battle prowess, often grounding the group with her insight and resolve.
History
The Companions of the Hall first came together to reclaim Mithral Hall, a dwarven kingdom lost to monsters and ancient evils deep beneath the earth. What began as a quest of restoration and vengeance grew into a lifelong alliance, uniting a diverse group of heroes with different backgrounds, beliefs, and destinies.
Their deeds have since extended far beyond Mithral Hall: they have fought against demon lords, tyrants, and gods; traversed the Underdark, the frozen north, and the celestial planes; and shaped the fate of nations.
Though not bound by oaths or contracts, the Companions are united by deep mutual respect and unbreakable friendship. Their strength lies not only in skill and magic but in their commitment to one another—and to doing what is right, no matter the cost.
What makes the Companions of the Hall truly remarkable is not just their victories but their resilience across time. They have faced death, loss, and separation, yet always found their way back to each other. At one point, some members even returned to life through divine intervention, chosen to fight again in the world's hour of need.
Their names are etched in song, tale, and stone across Faerûn, especially in the Silver Marches, Icewind Dale, and the Spine of the World. They are respected by kings, feared by monsters, and remembered by the common folk as champions of hope.
