The Verdant Tree

Close to the centre of the old town of Medloth, near the banks of the Senu river, stands the Verdant Tree. Huge branches rise out of its towering trunk, which is many folk wide. The boughs hang like a great awning over the circle that surrounds it, spreading its canopy outward and scattering green light on the ground beneath it in the summer sunshine. Looking past the tree, the court of the Tyldamin Triumvirate rises behind.
The Verdant Tree is thought to be around 1200 years old and to have been planted in the first spring after the Kynfesan Exodus. Historians think it unlikely that any Lomyn had already reached Medloth in that first spring, but it is certainly recorded to be very old and likely does stem from the earliest days of the town. In memory of the Exodus, wreaths of springtime flowers and fruit are laid at the tree every year by the Tyldamin Triumvirate during the Umaelich festival. The tree itself often carries its earliest blossoms during this time and the sweet scent of them often fills the air during the festival (as well as getting into everyone's clothes and fur as small blossoms become scattered by the wind).
It is a mystery how the tree has grown so old and still lives up to its flourishing name, although it is quite clear that magic plays a role. Researchers often try to discover more about this, but they are extremely careful in their investigations and in instigating any communion with the tree, for fear of disturbing it. A stylised depiction of the Verdant Tree forms the central part of the crest of the Natural Society.
