Scale-Kin
It does amuse me somewhat that, like the Elder-Kin, those of the scale have a great variety of physicality amongst their different... 'morphs', to borrow a word from the saurologists. Despite this, they are one of the most unified in their identity. Even with each of their morphs responding to a different god, or aspect of a god, they maintain a cohesive society.
As one can imagine, having such cohesion is quite the boon to a society at large, and so I'm putting a study together, and I had the thought that you may like to take along and get the info straight from the source? All expenses paid, of course, and we wouldn't leave your little editor fellow behind either.
According to the Scale-Kin, they were all spawned from a single god, that Of-Many-Scales, a many-faced goddess, who takes different forms at will.
After she had crafted their world, Xotlyan, legend states that she laid four clutches of eggs to make her world less lonely, each spawning into a different form. Knowing that adaptation would be her strongest tool in this newfound challenge, Of-Many-Scales took on a new form, one better suited for raising young. Taking the name of Ollech, she set about her task.
At first, fresh from the eggs, her form was perfect. It could care for and protect all of her young with little effort. As they grew, their differences became ever more present. Ollech couldn't teach them the lessons they needed, not as she was, so she created new morphs to aid in her task. Four more to be precise;
- Chizcu, Little-Scale
- Coal-To'atl, Brass-Feather;
- Xenqe'a, Spell-tongue;
- Tutlitl, Nahual-Fang;
While they would be named by their respective children, they are all Ollech, and yet the mythology of the Scale-Kin treats them as their own individual gods. In the end, I suppose that they would thus become as such, paradoxically. Such is the nature of gods. These four are treated as patron gods, of sorts, for their associated morphs.
In any case, each of these morphs would be used by Ollech to raise and nurture her numerous young, as well as to encourage the growth of their natural talents.
Basic Information
Anatomy
While the exact dimension of the Scale-Kin can carry quite a bit, they do follow a generally similar shape, with the notable exception of the Atlo'aa's serpentine lower halves.
They follow a mostly humanoid body plan, two legs and two arms, though their bodies do hunch forward somewhat. While they walk upright, their strong arms and muscular tails can be a great boon in traversing the jungles of their homeworld.
It does tend to make their existence within the societies of other races, especially the slighter species like the Goblin-kin, an exceeding rarity for all involved. Scale-kin do remain popular as a variety of laborers within human industry, however.
