Jernåsen

"The Iron Hills are a place of legend.  The snow-capped spires gleam as the sun strikes them in the morning.  The hills ring with the sounds of metal being worked by skilled craftsmen.  It is a music that fills the air and soothes the dwarven occupants of the halls beneath the great mountain.  Jernåsen, or the iron hillside, acts as both home and workplace for the Ironhill clan of dwarves.  The iron from their mountain is somehow special.  I am unsure if it is a supreme technique of metalworking or if there is something magical about the mountain itself.  If you were to ask Gloflir, King of the Ironhill Dwarves, he would simply tell you that it is iron and it can be transformed into many things."

History

The mountain and surrounding area was home to many creatures before the Ironhills laid claim to the land.  The most notable of of them was Ruphonth, the brood mother of the Silver Dragons.  While Ruphonth lived she defended the mountains around her laid from villainous raiders and anyone who would attempt to steal into her home and make off with her riches.  Those who made it deep enough never found any coins or gems, but the mountain itself was incredibly rich with silver.  So much silver, that the mountain itself could very well have been a spike of the gleaming mineral.  However, Ruphonth was eventually hunted down by poachers who were skilled in defeating dragons.  When her blood touched the mountain, all of the silver within it turned to iron and the vast fortune of silver was lost forever.

It wouldn't be for a decade or so that the Ironhill patriarch arrived to find his new home rich with iron that could be mined, shaped, and sold for vast sums of coin.  The halls and mines of Jernåsen are controlled by the Ironhills to this very day.
