Wil Cutter is a sweet country boy from Hilltop who has somehow gotten himself caught up in the roughest black market trade in Tenpin.
It happened in stages. As a boy just out of school, he worked as a freight loader at Lamier Glassworks in Millefleur. His skill in maintaining the loaders got him a job as a repairman on the MS DuChoy, a high-drag runner on the Tenpin sheet glass route. And so on. Wil now works as a procurer and tradesman in the Collier Sky Docks, in the center of the busiest trading port in Tenpin.
On the side, Wil facilitates the trade of nearly every item, substance, animal, and plant that you’re not legally allowed to own, manufacture, or move. His clients include the richest and most powerful in Tenpin and parts west.
Wil has an uncanny memory for names and faces, hobbies, and families, and he has befriended a huge network of people in the Dearworth Valley. He keeps an encyclopedic diary, which he maintains each day with a close record of all his encounters, and he reviews it constantly.
Wil refuses to see the dark side of anything, and somehow skates on the top of a deep network of awfulness that lies below all the trade in Tenpin. He sees his black market dealings as simply doing favors for friends, and for his good works he is beloved and protected like a family pet. Wil is an eternal light, a motivated connector of people, and only a day away from acquiring any item or part you might require.
He’s also only a day away from dead, if any of the Tenpin overlords learns about his meticulous diary.
